I was being ironic you tool.

Obviously we all know know we need a striker and the fact Danny couldn't play yesterday was obviously of concern. Like everyone I'm hoping we'll find a gem in the next 5 weeks.

I do apologise. Maybe your irony was a bit well hidden!

Bit harsh BW and I’m hopeful Welbeck will play a useful role this season. But come off it - do you really think club haven’t noticed that a striker upgrade is a priority ?
Who on earth is going round bidding for strikers behind Potters back if not. ?
(And not buying the first striker we are “linked” to doesn’t imply we’re not in the market for one either).

I obviously recognise we have bid. But it has got to the stage where we MUST succeed in our bid IMHO. Also, some goons on here don’t even seem to accept we need to bid!

Brian Owen gets his info from the club on these matters doesn't he? Surely they aren't feeding him a line. For sure someone is going to look a little silly after this.

I can understand the club feeding Owen and Naylor a line about reports in the press being rubbish. They can say that if a tiny detail is wrong.

But in this case such a strong denial does hang them both out to dry a bit if it isn't true.

Exactly. I think this is the agent pushing the story to get others to bid, I highly doubt this story has any truth to it.

Of course they would.

Remember anything they pass on to The Argus is the party line. They’re aware that any info given will become a story so of course they utilise some control with what they want released.

So we have Brighton ITKs, Owen and Naylor, saying the Eduoard stories are completely false and we quote “STILL have no interest in him”.

And on the other side we have Celtic ITK’s, plus the Mail, plus the original tweet saying we are interested.

Someone’s going to be wrong!

B.W.2 and his striker meltdowns on NSC are one of my top annual events. Just above pancake day.

Where do I rate in relation to, say, Easter or Christmas [emoji319]?

IF the Celtic ITK are right, I can’t quite work out what we want to happen on Weds. if Celtic win, they’re under less pressure to sell I guess, but if they lose, everyone will know they need to sell and we could face more competition? May watch, but not sure what I’m rooting for!

It's not a question of complacency, it's a question of practicality. It's all very well you talking like we absolutely have to have a striker but you've spent your NSC life moaning about needing to spend money on this person or that, and yet somehow without you spending someone else's money we seem to have rocketed up the league pyramid. Forgive me if I don't your accusations of complacency seriously, because you come across as someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Sorry.

How would getting another striker in solve us missing two penalities in one game, or hitting the woodwork five times in one game? It probably wouldn't even solve the issue of us having an xG three times higher than actual goals every game.

Indeed.

The agent is possibly trying to get Palace to throw more money at a deal.

Yeah that does make sense.

Mind you they would also be doing that if we were interested (the more parties the better).

I guess we’ll find out the truth when the window closes.

You tw@ts cannot have it both ways:

1. “We cannot spend too much on a proven Prem striker.”
And
2. “We cannot take a calculated risk on a foreign league of Championship striker, because we will likely fail.”

Given the state of football and the Albion’s finances, it has to be option 2. Suck it up. It MUST happen.

Oh, and please do tell oh mighty genius, how would you solve our xG problem? Rely on Connolly being another year older? Praying that Welbs stays fit? Maupay does a Lazarus? Andone miraculously returns from injury a better player? Buy another CB? What exactly is a better idea than investing in the position where we are failing to deliver? I am all ears!
It is number 2, but that is not my argument. I am thinking: we have taken similar punts on this range of striker before: Maupay, Ali J, Locadia and Andone. All similar pricewise, and it is clear to me that we are not going to get much better than the better of those 4 players for our money. People like you keep urging the club to do more of the same: £20m here, £15m there - all someone else's money obviously, but what makes you think Edouardo is going to be better than any of the others?

In answer to your question, my plan is that I am happy enough to give them all another year to prove they've got what it takes. I genuinely think we'll be ok.

Against West Brom, Welbeck and Gross both missed pens. Against Man Utd, Trossard hit the woodwork 3 times. This sort of thing went on all season until the last 10 or 12 games, I actually think we were unlucky to an extreme level and really can't believe we will have another season being so profligate in front of goal. What's your plan, get rid of all of them and replace them with? I am all ears!

"The most reliable Celtic source up here" is hopefully his agent! And £20M - no way - that's adding the 'they've sold White for £50M' factor into the equation in spades - 'so they've got £50M to spend and we want a huge chunk of it'. Dream on - please just dream on!
Offer them £10M if you must (just to appease those for whom we absolutely must bid for an imaginary 20 goal a season striker) then walk away! The absolute definition of 'we ned to buy a striker, any striker!'

I think we can assume if he was on a longer deal at Celtic he'd be more expensive than £20m.

By the time the bidding war which is being stoked is over, he'll probably go for at least £25m
