For my birthday my father in law bought us a pair of Olympic football tickets. When the fixtures came out I waited with baited breath. "Oooh, great Britain play on the 1st of August, the date of my ticket" "oh bugger they're playing in Cardiff that day"
The game i'm watching at wembley, 1st of august? South Korea vs Gabon!!!!!!!!
I'm still looking forward to going for a day out in London and drinking in the heady atmosphere of the Olympics. But what a shit fixture :)
What's the oddest game you've attended.

Cefn Druids v Airbus UK. Welsh cup game up in Rhyl in March. My missus was visiting her granny, I couldn't face a day of drinking tea and talking bollocks so I went off to the football and left them to it.

Argentina v Cameroon, World Cup Opening day 1990. Thought what a poor game to open with. The rest, they say, is history.

Torquay United v Shrewsbury Town.
Torquay actually do the "Give us a T. O. R. Q. U. A. Y." chant.
Hearing them sing the Q and U bit with no irony in their voices was utter priceless.

Was on my honeymoon in Zante for that game, watched in the hotel bar all on my own, sign of things to come for the wife who married a football fanatic

In Gambia we watched a couple of matches in their 'league cup'. The police plaed against one of the hotels, then the other hotel played against the brewery, the preliminary rounds are plaed barefoot on pitches made of sand. The final was in the national stadium which had real grass, but most of the players didn't have boots/shoes to play in, I gave one player my Adidas trainers so he could play.

One summer, about 1990 I think, I stayed with a mate in Sheffield who was a Blades fan, so naturally we went to Doncaster (Belle Vue) to see them play in a pre-season friendly. Not so naturally, the following night, out of what I can only think was a complete lack of common sense, we drove to Hull (Boothferry Park) to see them play Middlesbrough (another friendly). Think it ended 0-0

Brighton v York City, a short while after the goal posts came down. Played to fulfil the fixtures and Yorks relegation was still on the line I think as well

Afan Lido vs. Total Network Solutions.

I have always wanted an Afan Lido shirt (don't ask) so went along when working in Wales.

It was utter shit. No club shop.

0-0 btw.

I might have to do some research about them both but I'm thinking Gabon as well. I don't even know where Gabon is. I'm thinking Africa ?

I am also going to this game - disappointment to say the least! S.Korea for me because I know Park Ji-Sung whereas I know no Gabonians(?) I'm in the spirit for the Games as I am volunteering for 4 days in the Velodrome

Probably the most well known Gabon player is ex-Rangers player Daniel Cousin...don't know if he's still about or not though.

We bought tickets to the Olympics for myself, my wife and adult son and daughter - picked an event at random that we could afford and all make it to and decided on women's football - could have been any game but when the draw came out we are seeing Great Britain v Brazil! How good is that? OK it's not the men's football but I have watched women's football on the box before and seen some cracking goals and we are going to be able to cheer on our own country . . . well happy!
