One thing to be aware of is that Oculus Rift is owned by Facebook. They want to take control of the social world of VR too! That's the main thing that puts me off the OR.

Personally, I'm waiting for the next-gen Playstation VR to come out before investing. I don't think the VR quality is quite there yet.

I bought a rift to play Elite Dangerous, (Space sim/trading/combat game).

The experience is awsome, the immersion intense.

That's the game I'd mainly be using it with, so that's good to hear.

It sounds a bit 'Pacific Rim' really.

When do we expect the Kaijus ?

Myself and a at least one other NSC’er I know of work with VR on a daily basis.

It’s a funny old beast, it can be amazing on all sorts of devices, but lots of peoples first experiences are cheap 360degree videos or 3dof nausea inducing apps on mobile headsets.

It’s still got a way to go yet to get consumer traction, but the new Oculus Quest looks like a massive step forward.

No cables, no laptop/pc, 6dof, touch controllers for around £400. That is a massive improvement on Rift at approx £2k including all hardware needed.

Interesting times ahead.
