Brighton - In your face
Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Lewis Holtby were also on the scoresheet in our 10-6 victory at the Training Centre – but it was Obika who took centre stage with three goals either side of half-time.
Chris Ramsey praised Obika’s work rate against the club at which the striker spent a spell on loan last season – but insisted it’s important to keep the result in perspective.
“Obviously Jon Obika’s come back after a long-term injury and we’re very pleased with how he worked today and what he did; not only the goals – the different parts of his game were really good,” Chris said.
“It’s been a long journey for him but he’s looking more and more like the player we know he can be.
“To be honest we had a very strong team out and they had quite a young team so we have to put things into perspective.”
Charlton made a quick start, Toby Sho-Silva heading them ahead inside 90 seconds, but Obika turned on the edge of the box and fired in his first goal to restore parity in the seventh minute.
Lamela’s rasping effort struck the bar before Obika bagged his second, knocking in the rebound after Adam Smith tested the Charlton keeper with a long-range shot.
Obika converted Chadli’s left wing cross at the near post to complete his treble and, after Smith deflected Bradley Jordan’s low shot onto the post at the other end, Lamela added our fourth with a stunning solo goal, taking on and beating several players before finishing across the keeper with his right foot.
We went 5-1 up in the 40th minute when Ryan Fredericks got to the byline on the right and hung up a cross which Chadli nodded home at the back stick, but Charlton hit back three minutes before the break when Callum Harriott’s free-kick deflected off our defensive wall and crept inside the far post.
Obika finished off a neat move involving Lamela and Chadli to make it 6-2 just 70 seconds after the restart, before Holtby rammed home from close range after the Charlton keeper spilled Chadli’s left-sided cross at his near post.
The Addicks pulled one back after a great counter-attack on 52 minutes, before Obika added to his tally with two goals in as many minutes – both well-placed shots into the corner of the net.
Chadli bagged his second of the game mid-way through the second period as he drilled home following substitute Kenny McEvoy’s right wing cross, before Charlton’s Harry Lennon headed in Harriott’s corner from close range.
The visitors added two further goals in the dying moments through Ade Azeez and Harriott – a fine strike into the top corner from outside the area – with Ramsey describing the match as “a very useful exercise” afterwards.
“I was disappointed with the way we defended but I think sometimes when you’re on top for so long people start losing their concentration, which is another major aspect of winning games or playing well in games for a long period.”

He cant be on loan to maybe replace Barnes ,if sold because the loan period does not get him to the end of the season. He must be cover for CMS/Hoskins.

Did he play for the U21 squad at Southampton yesterday ? The team sheet included a trialist playing as a striker.

He has been drafted in as cover for the two injured strikers , CMS maybe back at the end of the month.

To add my bit, he was truly awful for us, but it was 3/4 years ago ?
If he's been signed for cover, he may be ok, but don't think because he scored 6 goals in a game recently he's any good.( the 10-6 score line suggests it was a training exercise)
