Oatway

Or the fact mcghee will play a player in any postion just to make sure his favs get into the side?

Virgo in midfield? come on

Of this I am more certain than anything, McGhee doesn't give a f*** what the football management amateurs in the crowd thinks, he trusts his own judgment 100 per cent and that of his coaching team not far behind that.

Virgs in midfield was a justifiable one - trying to replace what Chippy brings to the team. It also ensured no defensive weakness that you were worried about on the left before the game.

As an attacking option I don't think it worked, because I don't think Leon is effective in central positions, but you can't have everything, we looked solid even though Reading had a lot of the ball and I don't think we looked like conceding against their starting eleven - wasn't that defensive tightness what everyone wanted after the last 2 games?

Unfortunately, Coppell had a class player to bring on in Forster to break the game. There's nothing we can do about that - we don't have a forward anywhere near as good as Forster yet Reading can just leave him on their bench - that's a gap in class we always struggle against. Often we've been successful in that fight, but we will lose more than we win. We move on to the Coventry cup final, nuff said.

mcghee is just wrong here.

just because mcghee picks oatway it doesnt mean he is right.

Yeah, well, do you doubt he's going to continue to be "wrong" for the remaining games? Players like Charlie have got us to this position this season and McGhee will let him and his other stalwarts finish the job, whether they remain appreciated or unappreciated by Brighton fans such as yourself.

Did you leave before the last 20 minutes? He led the fightback at the end, at least half a dozen difficult passes threaded down the flanks for our forwards to run on to. Nicolas hits one of those passes about every ten games.

Do you ever, ever see an Oatway perfromance with anything but rose-tinted glasses LI?

One decent pass in the WHOLE GAME (to McPhee when he was fouled in the box by Sonko) does not merit your usual 10 out 10 performance for Oatway

And your man flunked his lines when three yards out when easier to score from Hammond's header from the corner :nono: Going to criticise him for that major error? Doubt it

Got to say I thought Oatway was poor both last night and against Wigan. IMO Nicholas wasn't bad against Wigan and Hammond was OK tonight. Charlie has been a good servant and has suprised a few this season with his performances, but currently he's just not cutting it and he needs resting...

Three memorable if not good moments of the game:

Harding bottling out? with Forster's goal.

Oatway trying to get his right foot around the chance he should have poked in with his left foot.

Sidwell? bottling out in 50-50 ball with Virgo near the end.

And then the succession of Kerry Mayo's poor crosses. But to get into the psotion to cross in the first place.

Shorey looked the best left back in the division?

What would you do without the :nono: smilie :)

I think last week the word I used to describe Charlie's finishing all season was - "rubbish" (something along those lines anyway). If I could be bothered to look up the post I would. But I can't.

No doubt you are similarly critical of Hammond and Butters who also had chances within the six-yard box range? :nono: :jester:

i think most peoples criticisms of oatway last night were down to his lack of pace and his complete inability to keep hold of the ball and win it back.

Indeed - no change there then.

Butters hit the target, Hammond's was nowhere near as easy as Oatway's.

But he's not really in the side for his finishing, although he was rubbish last night.

It's a confidence thing. At the moment very few of the players DO want the ball. Especially at the back where its passed around like a hot potato. Timid little passes that go astray more often than not, when Leon is trying to flag the damn thing down, completely unmarked, thirty yards away. Easier to get rid and not get grief from the South Stand. Need that next big result soon to get the ball-play back. Everybody far too jittery on the ball for now.

I am inclined to agree. A truly awful display. What has happened to the Charlie we saw earlier in the season? Hopefully it's just a bad patch. Time alone will tell.

Maybe there is to much expectation on Oatway bearing in ming Chippy's be in absentia for three games ???

I have no interest in what you said last week about Oatway's finishing...unlike you, I don't spend my life on NSC and have no desire to read every post you make :nono: ;)

I don't recall Hammond and Butters making such a blatant cock up as Oatway's.....and the point I'm trying to make is that you NEVER criticise Oatway, despite his obvious and continual failings at this level.

THE REASON WHY I THINK OATWAY HAS HAD A DIP IN FORM IS FOR 2 REASON:
1. HE GOT SENT OFF AGAINST LEEDS AND GOT SUSPENDED FOR THREE MATCHES, WHICH BROKE THE MOMENTUM OF HIM PLAYING WELL.
2. THEN CHIPPY GOT SENT OFF AGAINST PLYMOUTH AND IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED.

WHEN THOSE PLAY TOGETHER I THINK WE LOOK A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT APPART FROM BEING GOOD MATES I THINK THEY WORK OFF EACH OTHER WHEN THEY PLAY TOGETHER. WHEN ONE OF THEM IS MISSING THE OTHER ONE LOOKS A BIT LOST AND RESULTS IN HIM NOT PLAYING VERY WELL.

I THINK OATWAY HAS BEEN EXCELLENT FOR THE ALBION FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND HAS COME UNDER A LOT OF CRITISM RECENTLY, ITS ABOUT TIME EVERYBODY GOT OFF HIS BACK. I PERSONALLY THINK THAT HE WILL PLAY BETTER WHEN CHIPPY IS BACK AGAINST PRESTON.
