Not sure about this bit at all. I like Oasis, and I don’t like, say, NWA but I wouldn’t dream of calling them “aggressively black”.
I'm talking about the entire potential line up most likely being fully white.

I'm not suggesting any connotations of racism or anything like that - don't read into my post things I'm not saying.

I didn't even say I don't like Oasis. I can recognise their talent and there are moments I like. F**kin' in the Bushes is a fantastic tune, for example.

I just don’t see what their race has to do with anything in the first place.

I'm more referring to the style of music really.

Replace white with another word if it makes you feel more comfortable. Apologies if I offended you.

My feelings about Oasis have ebbed and flowed over the years.

As a kid, they were always my older brother's music, his generation etc, so I didn't like it initially and got more into US rock as a youngster (Chili Peppers, RATM etc), it seemed much more interesting and exotic.

Radiohead and Muse brought me back round.

I can now appreciate the importance and cultural significance of Oasis (those early gigs must've been very exciting to be at) and I do recognise Noel has some talent as a songwriter. However, as a bassist who used to be a drummer I find their rhythm section insanely boring and unimaginative and that makes it harder for me to really get into them on the music side of things.

Also a bit like Pearl Jam (Staind, Nickelback, Creed etc), Oasis have spawned so many bands who are utterly awful (not their fault, but hard not to link).

Seeing everyone's dream line ups for the gig being things like;

OASIS
The Charlatans
The Verve
The Enemy

etc just seems so boring and aggressively white - no swing or groove at all. But, each to their own and I hope if anyone here gets tickets they have a great time!
Aggressively white?

Not sure I get the meaning here. Is it aggressive to be white? Is it racist to have a white line up?

Certain genres of music appeal to specific demographics on the whole. Rock music is historically liked by white guys, therefore many of the artists are similar. I wouldn’t expect to see Royal Blood playing at Notting Hill Carnival, just like Stormzy may not hold the attention of an opera crowd. Of course there are exceptions, Hendrix or Eminem, but they are few and far between.

Blimey. Didn't realise this would be taken quite so badly.

Think I've been misunderstood here a little. Obviously it was a poor choice of words. There are plenty of white bands who play with swagger, style, swing etc.

I mean more than I find a certain type of rock to be very bland and boring when you have a lot of it together. That's all.

I think maybe you have now hit the nail on the head, just a wrong description. Although I do believe in giving the majority of an audience what they want to hear.

Oh completely. I don't have any issue with Oasis having whatever line up they want. The gigs will be absolutely massive - was merely discussing my personal taste.

"Aggressively white" was obviously too potentially loaded a term, and inappropriate.

At the time, it was insanely exciting especially as I was living in Camden. I was a fan but not a huge fan; I backed blur in the head-2-head.

I only saw them just the once but I did see Noel popping up announced a few times. I do not get the argument they were rubbish live, unless this is a reference to the latter day band? Like many, I lost touch after the thrid album because 1) they went well and truly off the boil and 2) I was expanding my musical horizons into all manner of stuff.

I am intrigued by the amount of attention this reunion has got though; clearly a cultural phenomena even if it's one I will not join in with. I'm also intrigued how they never really broke big in mainland europe or the US.

Most black artists play to predominantly white crowds in the UK and always have done, from early hip hop, through Prince and Wacko Jacko, through Stormzy, Dave etc.

Anyway, back on track, are Oasis shite or not? I'm more confused than when the thread started!

I would say "it's because they're aggressively british" but I've learnt my lesson so I won't be saying that.

Depeche Mode are the sort of English band that Europe absolutely adores.

I guess so. A couple of brothers in windercheaters and feather cuts maybe doesnt resonate as much on the med?
