In slight defence of Coldplay, I was at Pacha in Ibiza and right at the end of the night Eric Morillo dropped a dance remix of the latest Colplay single (dont know its name) and it sent the place off on one and was one of those genuine hairs on teh back of your neck moments. Top memory!

Not really amazingly different, very interesting music IMHO plus he is only 18 years old and probably deserves this for making such a 'groundbreaking' album at such a young age.

Cosmos remix of Clocks, I'd guess (not released).

I was the person who voted for Dizzee above, BTW. I win. Yay!

what a pile of complete shit!!!

Dizzy rascle is a thick as shit!, why the f*** did he win!!

he is NOT talented, its an utter discrace that he won,

a 19 year old talking shit does not constitute as music.

The Darkness rock, the best rock band this country has seen in over 20 years, all can play intruments, good tunes. good showmen. this is the sort of thing we should be praising not urban (black) music.

im going back to watching , the smash hits poll winner party!

I would have had more support for him If I could have understood a single word coming out of his trap.

what little I heard he sounds more like a street poet than a musician, he has more in common with the traditional folky lady with the violin and tonka toy boots. IMHO

for me the vote would have been
the Darkness, the Thrills and Athlete as a 1,2,3

good luck to him I suppose, I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying, so hopefully the money will be put to vocabularly lessons ;)

But I'm confused now as to the voting and selection of these albums then - if they are such an influence on us all then why hadn't I heard a lot of them - I understand that I don't listen to some of these types of music - but HMV doesn't have many of them on its suggested listening or top selling lists?? nor have I heard many of them mentioned on the radio??

You f***ing what??
I wonder if you've listened to the Dizzee album at all.

So we should only praise white music should we? Why's that, because so called 'urban' people aren't members of 'our' culture as of yet?

Jeez

I agree the darkness are fantastic fun but the Mercury music prize is one for innovation, the darkness are 're-hashing' music that was made 20 years ago, dizzee rascal is part of a growing form of music in this country that is as worthy of recognition as any other.

30 years ago actually Chapman
:D

and Im sure Dizzee has his influences, old and new, that old argument doesnt wash Im afraid.

the fact is thayve all made great debut recordings, with the exception of the old school (CP and RH) but Im not sure why they where nominated in all honesty.

I think Dizzee will benefit from it more, The darkness have already hit the big time, as have the thrills, lots of airplay etc.

it'll be interesting to see whos still around/banged up/burnt out in three years !
