Everyone in my home has an MP3 player apart from me, so I think it's time to stop buying CD's and get into MP3's. But I just can't decide which one to buy.

I won't be using it for video - just loading on a lot of albums (perhaps 300 or so - is that a lot?) and then adding new stuff as I come across it. Playing in the office/car etc.

Anyone know where to start looking? Got any tips? Help appreciated.

Creative Zen, SD card compatible so memory is never an issue, they come in 4gb, 8gb, 16gb & 32gb

Yup, Zen for me.

Especially when they intergrate the memory card with the rest of the players features, which they intend to.

It can do video- but you don't have to.

Creative Zen, You dont have to have that stupid ipod software itunes,
it's just drag and drop.
Plus they are a much better player.

I'm amazed by all this creative fuss.... I had creative fior years but it really can't beat IRiver. I river has all the power and sound quality of Ipod but the machine quality, ease of use and reliability of creative.
1. Iriver
2 Creative Zen but expect lower sound quality

AND STEER CLEAR OF IPOD LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Sound quality fine for me (and you can get the euro standard sound limitation overridden)
and price fab, 16gb for £99- pretty good.

What's with all this 'drag and drop' and 'stupid itunes software'? Agree iTunes is stupid btw but....

...Media Monkey allows you to drag and drop' any file on to an iPod, remove anything on there that you want to remove and there's none of that 'sync' bullshit.

I have iPod and an old iRiver H320 and they're both good (but the H320 is better). Big difference is in the accessories dept which iPod wins by a country mile. I can get FM Transmitters like Griffin for my iPod, I have an adapter that allows me to download pics straight from my camera, Bose do a nice speaker sytem only for iPod, etc., etc. I wish iRiver was as well accepted as an iPod by the general public but it wasn't so for me iPod is the way to go.

IPODs suck, had a Samsung K5 for a few years and really nice bit of kit.

Great advice guys - thank you.

Conclusion seems to be:

Creative Zen because of the additional memory and general praise
iRiver may be better but lacks accessories
iPod - big brand but as often the way, not the best.

Creative Zen it is - thanks.

I have my Creative Zen 8Gb MP3 player now and am happily loading CDs on to it. Have used it a couple of times and find it easy to use and intuitive. Thanks for the tips.
