Why are you spouting this shit? Like your stuff above - it's completely irrelevant.

Largely people buy a Mac because they want a machine that, straight out of the box, is easy to use and does everything they need at home.

Home. Not in an office. Not some big lumpy SQL/RDB based work. Not some geeky f***ing around.

It may not suit you. You may have issues with any or all of Apple, Macs and OS X. Fine. Fight your little crusade. But it doesn't change the fact that for the home user wanting a slick, easy to use machine to handle home tasks - the web, photos and music - a Mac does the task wonderfully and without fuss.

So whats an XServe then? Only Apple's second most profitable hardware line (after the iPod). Oh, and its a server, in case you hadn't guessed

You've done me good and proper sir. Well played.

Everyone goes out and buys a server for their home, don't they?

Whatever point you're trying to make is highly relevant to the home consumer. Highly, highly.

So, you've effectively admitted the system is unsuitable for server use, despite Apple selling as such; unsuitable for office use, despite Apple selling it as such; and say that its only usable for "home consumer"s. So, effectively, its a highly priced toy for home use that can't be used to game or do office work.

Sounds about right, to be honest.

I don't want a server. I don't want a computer that can't I can't use for work but it's my work I'm talking about here, not some esoteric job in Geekworld. I want a computer that I can bring home, unpack, and start working on about 2 minutes later. Like mine! I don't want some bollocky interfering operating system that wants everything stored away in folders called My Aunt Fanny and I want to be able to plug stuff in without a sodding stupid routine that tells me I've put a Hi-Speed USB into a Hi-Speed USB port when I'm perfectly well aware of that fact. Oh, and when I want to unplug stuff, I don't need another sodding interrogation. I also want a stonking great screen. I particularly don't want a computer that is so logically designed that you have to press the "Start" button to shut it down!

So for me there's only one choice and it's a Mac.

If you choose differently that's just fine. But don't impose your choice on me!

Why are XServe so expensive? I know it has nice hardware, but common the prices are a rip off.

Why do I not see hosting companies using Apple Hardware?

PC can be split to in three categories

Windows - General use
Mac - Design
Linux, BSD - Servers

I use linux as a home server, I also set a small server up @ work.

I'm still not able to use Linux as my main machine because I still need Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

I have used CXOFFICE to get these running in Linux but their still not the same.

Wait in hope the one day Adobe will bring out native versions for the both Photoshop and Dreamweaver then I can switch as Mac users call it.

I can see people looking hard at Linux as an alternative to Vista. Vista looks very clumsy to me.

Mind you it'll sell more copies than any Mac system, must be a good reason.
