O/T - Help with Year 7 Maths Homework :)

Trying to help my daughter, I'm competent at maths but can't help her with these questions where BODMAS is relevant and brackets need to be added to get the equation to balance:

4 + 2 x 3 ^2 - 50 = 50

4 + 7 - 4 x 2 ^2 = 40

Another question is:

7 + 2 x 3 + 1 = 15

I thought there was a typo and the answer should be:

7 + (2 x 3) + 1 = 14

If the above is correct and there is a typo, maybe the first 2 questions are also not possible albeit I can't find an obvious typo and it must be me not being as good at maths as I though.


Any help appreciated - due in on Monday.

The jnr stat's are in for a pooh load of trouble in the coming years.

Esp considering I'd have said adding and stuff would be one of my strong subjects

Due to BODMAS you only need a single set of brackets. 7 + 2 x (3 + 1) = 7 + 2 x 4 = 7 + 8

They're not wrong, but you don't actually need them in the =15 equation as you always multiply before adding (order of operation)
