The edit was simply my insertion. Nothing was deleted. I was just (attempting to) making a joke. Not a very good one. Apologies. As you were.
I got it, it even made me smile :)

Then i thought, why have i opened and am reading a thread on catflaps when i haven't got one and have no intention of getting one!
That is both a cat and the flap i mean.

My cat had his annual check up last week. He has a small scar by his nose, from a neighbourhood cat, but I also told the vet he catches mice.
Ah, a proper cat, said the vet.

You cannot change an animal's instinct. The reason small cats were 'domesticated' was to keep vermin down.
"We get three or four birds, mice, rats or moles a night." that's almost 1500 a year, vermin control?

Different strokes for different folks. Cats are very unpopular in Oz. They decimate the native wildlife
They were allowed to breed so therefore became uncontrollable. Farmers were pleased their grain/feed stores were protected but too tight fisted to neuter the strays

Every domestic cat should be neutered, and that would solve the problem.

There seems to be a season. Otis catches prey between March and October mainly. But still very many critters. Mainly mice. Few birds because he has a bell - but he is very partial to a pigeon chick (which stink when they are unassembled under a bed).

We're in the country, so the odd mole is not surprising. Milo, his brother, catches nothing and couldn't give a shoot about critters.

Both were feral when rescued by RSPCA so not surprising they hunt. And yes, both have had the snip.

Update:

My role as a cat flap mule is almost over, the package will finally be arriving at Chez @Couldn't Be Hyypia 's on Friday.

Very interested to hear whether it works.

Can any NSC member in Germany help?

I want to buy a German product, but currently they only deliver to Germany. Is there any kind sole who would let me get it delivered to them and then forward it on to me in the UK? I will happily pay all costs, of course.

In case you're interested, and worry it might be something a bit dodgy, it's a catflap adapter that spots when your cat is carrying an animal and keeps the cat flap locked. Clever beggars these Germans!!

Katzenklappenadapter?

A small update. Thanks to @Herr Tubthumper's considerable efforts, the kit arrived.

We've been using it for half a day and it only bloody works!

The app let's us see when the cat comes in - or is denied entry!
