Get ready to dig very deep into your pocket.

Tivoli is nice.

Recommend the Carlsberg brewery too. They do some very nice micro brews which you can sample. :drunk:

Much better than the standard tosh.

Great city, my mum lived there for 12 months a couple of years ago.

Went there with the my ex girlfriend year before last, it’s expensive but not horrendously so.

The highlights for me were the botanical gardens, the hippy town and Tivoli. If Tivoli was ion England it would be full of chavy families and little shits but it’s not so it has a host of decent restaurants, in beautiful surroundings well worth a visit.

I have to recommend Nørrebro Bryghus, which is a restaurant and micro brewery, the food although not Michelin star, is very good, they bring you different beers according what you have ordered. Really nice place with a vibrant and friendly atmosphere.

Well worth taking a boat trip too, where you get a good view of the little mermaid which is, well very little.

not been, but understand it is v v dear..

also, am i right in thinking it's the only city that is not actually (physically) IN the country its a capital of..? (linked by bridges..)

Denmark is positively cheap for food and drink compared to Norway or Sweden. If you are from the south of England prices will not be a shock.

Copenhagens just NICE. Probably Europes best captital in my opinion.

The national museum has just been refurbished and is superb. You can do half a day in there easily.

Jutland is the mainland but they all take the piss out of it. The only Jutland people you will meet in Copenhagen are the coppers.

It will be cold and windy this weekend so wrap up. A walk around Christiania is always interesting (they normally do a tour on Sunday), whether or not you interested in hash and is Denmarks second biggest tourist attraction apparently. Trip up the Roundtower for a nice view over Copenhagen. A canal boat trip, if still going for the winter. Carlsberg museum is worth a punt. Noma is booked up months in advance now and will cost likely more than your trip, but plenty of other good places to eat if you avoid eating on the main drag. The Carlsberg art museum (Glyptoteket) is free on a Sunday and is worth a visit if you want to be cultural. Quite a few brew pubs that do nice stuff (Nørrebro's Bryghus and Brew Pub for ex.). Istedgade for drugs, whores and pint pulled with a whore's fanny - probably not for the wife. Will think of some more...

If it's not too cold, go for a boat trip around the harbour. If it's cold there are some lovely atmospheric bars/coffee houses around the Nyhaven (sp?). As others have said, be prepared to empty your wallet. Even a coffee or a small beer will probably set you back at leadt £4. For cheap eats, you can try the restaurants in some of the big department stores in the centre. Tivoli gardens is great, especialky at night, but the restaurants are mega-pricey.

I have to recommend Nørrebro Bryghus,

There's Mikkeller as well - Mikkeller - arguably at the vanguard of new Danish brewing revolution.

Carlsberg is so last century.

Midtfyns Bryghus is not in Copenhagen, but if you see any of their beers on sale anywhere they are well worth trying.

Copenhagen's a nice city and definitely agree that a walk around Christiania is interesting.

Denmark is positively cheap for food and drink compared to Norway or Sweden. If you are from the south of England prices will not be a shock.

Don't agree with this though. I'd say Copenhagen's on a par with Oslo but more expensive than Stockholm. Sweden in general is cheaper for food and drink than Norway and Denmark.

For a large beer in Copenhagen's city centre you'll pay around £6- sometimes more, sometimes less but it'll certainly be more than your average southern England pint. Food's pricier than the UK too.

Have fun.

fair enough but I find Denmark as a rule is a lot cheaper than the other two for drink, I think that stands. With sounding pretentiously obscure when I am there I use a pub in Islandsbrygge and there is no real difference from a London local price wise. Oslo is a kick in the bollocks wherever you go I have found.

Been here for 15 years and price comparisons chop and change with the exchange rate. For the past couple of years virtually everything is f'n expensive compared to the UK because of the pound's plight. You'll get a cheaper beer in the more local places, but otherwise expect over a fiver for a half litre, which most will fill well below the half litre... Tivoli is also extortionate, but worth a visit for the Christmassy feel...

Is Tivoli actually open this time of year? I remember trying in the winter when we went, and it looked like it was closed for months.

Anyway, add my approval of a top city, especially Nyhavn or however you spell it. Some very nice parks, museums etc. Went and had a look at that hippy commune out of interest, but wish we hadn't. It was more grubby and disgusting than a shining beacon of freedom from a corporate world. I'd close it down if I was the Mayor.

Tivoli only used to be open May to September but now opens for the Christmas market trade - Not sure what date but must be soon

lived there for 3 years circa 1980 - Definately best to visit in summer when the Danes come out of theirselves

I lived in Odense and regularly visited København, agree with this person's comments also Noma is superb. And take in a Jensen's bøfhus - the finest commercial steak house chain in the world. Their whiskey sauce is to DIE for

The seaside.
Was there in September. The not in the country it's capital of bit is wrong, Denmark is made up of lots of different islands as are many countries in the world. You could argue that Stockholm (set on 17 islands) or Venice (in the sea) aren't in Sweden or Italy if the "linked by bridges" rule applies. Copenhagen is expensive for hotels, but very reasonable for beer for Scandinavia. I was paying £9 a pint in Malmo (Sweden) on the same holiday, but 'only' £6 or so in Copenagen.

Don't bother going to see the Little Mermaid, it isn't there. They sent it to Shanghai (World Expo) to try and drum up business for Danish companies from China. Yes, they sent the actual thing! Most other countries would have sent a replica. It's due back sometime in December, I believe.

The Ny Carlsberg Glypotek is an ace art museum, Christiania is full of nutters and spliffs (imagine The Level if it was surrounded by canals), and the Carlsberg Brewery Tour is excellent, with two free beers at the end (don't worry, they do loads of different beers, porters, bitters, etc rather than just the piss-tasting lager they send over here).

Pub recommendations: Nørrebro Bryghus, North of the centre, is an aces brewpub. CUBE (cocktail bar on the ground floor of Scandic Webers hotel near the station) is brilliant as it looks out onto the crossroads where all the prostitutes try to pick up punters, ie great for people-watching. Charlie's Bar, just off Stroget (pedestrianised shopping street) is good if you get homesick, they do several Harveys beers on draught and are famously the only pub outside a 50 mile radius of Lewes that Harveys supply. They also do (Porterhouse) Wrasslers XXX, the world's bestest stout, on draught.
