I have a source - can't name him, but he works in the club - who says that COG is only on 6K, which was a 50% increase on his Barnsley wage. However he missis his whippets, as well as having bread and dripping for his tea every night, so is prepared to take a pay cut to go back to Sheffield.

This making shit up is easy, isn't it?

:D ...Must have a go myself

I remember seeing on another thread a response from a Barnsley fan who said he had contact at BFC.
He said COG had an offer from Charlton but they were only willing to go to £5k.
We then came from nowhere with an offer at least 2x this and a 3 year contract.
Club has seen enough to want out of that deal asap.....(Just like Dobbie a Burke panic buy).
Agree with decision as wife clearly not interested in staying down here so that will affect COG performance.
Hughton has also preferred to start with CMS (!) which is hardly a glowing reference.

Not quite sure I understand why COG signed for us in the first place if he wants to be "up north"!! A quick look at any map would have shown him that we are about as far away from "up north" as you can get.

I think he has done ok. No doubt he was shabbily treated by Hyypia but he is history now so with the fans being supportive, and a new manager in place, I find it disappointing that he hasn't just shut up and got his head down and got on with the job he is being paid to do.

I've not had the opportunity to see enough of him to decide whether he is Championship standard but he could be. I just wish he'd stop his bleating and get on with it.

As far as the club is concerned, what is the point in keeping a player who has made it clear that he is desperate to leave? Replacement or not. Don't we have enough problems without having a potentially destabilising influence in the dressing room?

I might have been hibernating the past 6 months or so because I've not seen the ferocity of complaint that you're talking about.

Can you post a few links as I'm curious

I've seen loads of people on here though who seem to know the ins and outs of his personal life and seemingly know the whole story about him wanting away

My take on it is that he's been frozen out, and Clough has come in and said if you want to play football then come back up here.

Apart from saying he wants to play, and in one interview that the to-ing and fro-ing has unsettled, then nothing much else, certainly not bleating. To suggest he might be a destabilising influence is just letting your imagination get the better of you

Barnsley were in the **** with O'Grady over the summer , relegated to League 1 but contract clauses (appearances and goals scored) meant they had to offer him a new deal on more money. The only reason why he was offloaded by Barnsley and would have signed for another northern club if we hadn't flashed loadsamoney at him.

High up on the South Downs.
Perhaps he and his family didnt realise the cultural differences between Sheffield and Brighton and adopted the attitude for £18k a week, which I am told he is on, they could adjust.

O'Grady comes from Nottingham FFS. Surely the cultural differences aren't that great. Is Dean Hammond unhappy at Leicester because he's from Hastings.

Given the choice I would have had a pub in Brighton and would have only considered Nottingham if the wage offered was very good. He was at Barnsley with his family settled so it would take something exceptional to make them relocate down south.

If ever there were a transient career then it's that of a footballer

I think all this "wanting back to Yorks, homesick" stuff is nonsense invented here based on putting 2 & 2 together and coming up with a number that probably isn't 4. OFC he wants back if he's going to play football which is what I've heard him say, and naturally unsettled shunted back and forward which is fair enough

In response to spence post .. missed the quote bit as I fumed :)

Not celeb status for me and I actually saw he had some good potential before Fulham. Even playing out wide in his odd appearances under Hypia you could see he was a strong fella and had good control.

What I don't get is that some never gave him a chance and rating any of our players during the SH period is pretty unfair.

Yes we have had crap strikers and your statement that COG had one good season is pretty irrelevent. I remember when we signed Ulloa he was little more than a journeyman too but an Argentinian coming from Spanish football gave him pretty well instant celeb status .. unlike a Yorkie from Barnsley

I'm not surprised COG wants out, I doubt he cares too much what the fans think but if people at the club think the same then I'm surprised he's not put in a written request

One of the best posts I have seen in a long time, also agree 100%

Fumed about what? This is a football forum to discuss such things. I think COG is shit and you don't.

Sorry but I disagree with you, your stats (you could have stats on anything to put in favour of the point your putting across) don't mean much about the goals. O'Grady offers so much more to the team than CMS does. He is strong in the air, is a presence and has contributed to us scoring when he has been on. I do respect your opinion however.

I for one will be disappointed if he leaves.

I cant say his name but he is usually correct and reliable with info.
I guess he's never told you a rumour before then, 'cos you've never got anything right.

Can't see him going before deadline day, just in case Best gets crocked vs Ipswich and recalled for treatment.

You think O'Grady is better than CMS?

For the style we play and what we need from a striker, absolutely. Last night against Ipswich shows what he can do when used properly, that is hold the ball up and bring others into play which CMS can't do. CMS will only work if played alongside someone like COG, if we only play one up front then COG will be much more effective.

His return ball to Joe Bennett for the third goal was exceptional. Was it luck?

Looked as if he meant it to me. He was holding it up and distributing superbly all evening. I actually thought his movement was very good as well, there were a couple of times in the first half where he kind of peeled away from his marker for the ball over the top and in behind. Certainly showed he has more strings to his bow than we'd seen so far anyway, he is certainly better than the 'different option' Sami labelled him as earlier in the season.
