Nzuzi Toko SIGNS

None of us know if he will be good, bad or indifferent as none of us has seen him play. The only observation I make is that we have put a new player under contract, therefore spending the playing budget without a manager. Obviously we need a long term strategy for this club on things such as expansion and increasing revenue but when it comes to players, shouldn't a manager decide who we sign as its the manager who create the tactics and know what sort of players he wants? Also it will be the manager who is sacked if it all goes wrong.

He's declared for the Swiss international side I think, so probably not.

They are in a qualifying group with Ivory Coast, Cameroon and one other. Doubt they'll even be there. They play qualifiers though in September, October and November (presumably in the usual international breaks).

Not sure on his status. He's seemingly played international friendlies for DR Congo, and U21 internationals for Switzerland. If the U21 were competitive fixtures, I think that still ties him to them.

He's come out and said he's playing for the Swiss. He moved there when he was 4 so it's fair enough.

To (hopefully) clarify this issue somewhat:-

Under current FIFA eligibility rules, a player can represent one country at "youth" international level and another country at senior international level. Also, senior friendly matches do not commit a player to that country.

Toko has taken advantage of these rules a couple of times: he made his senior debut for DR Congo in a friendly against Saudi Arabia in May 2010. In March 2011 he made his first appearance for the Swiss U-21 side.

However, in December 2012 he committed to the DR Congo - Nzuzi Toko agrees to play for the RDC!

He was in the provisional 28-man squad for the 2013 African Cup of Nations, and although he didn't make the final 23-man squad, he DID play against Libya in March 2013 in a World Cup qualifier - DR Congo 0 - 0 Libya 24 March 2013

This commits him to DR Congo.

And to all those suggesting he is a walking red card: domestically in Switzerland, having participated in 195 matches, he received exactly ONE red card (whilst playing for the Grasshoppers B team).
