This has always puzzled me. I can understand why folk at a festival watch the big screen - because they are so far away from the performer. But I can honestly say, the only times I have looked at the big screen at a match is to see how long is left, or watch a goal replay. What are they doing - sat there watching the big screen? Or, are they watching the live match on their phones, which is how they know they'r on the TV?
