Mini has a Toshiba laptop and it is looking like the HD has gone totally west.

Will not boot up, can't load recovery disk etc.

Anyone interested in repairing it and if so what sort of price.

If you do not want to discuss here then PM me and we can talk about it that way but interested in getting it repaired as only a few years old.

The Queen's Road computer shop is worth a visit to, I suggest. Very reasonable prices.

If it powers up

Toshiba have a inbuilt repair system and should boot from either F2 or F8 but this will return the HD to year zero if you have nothing you need to preserve on the disc.

If your confident..

If there are two sticks of RAM in the bottom of the laptop (there might be one though) take one out, and try again.

Then swap, with the other one, and try each one in the other slot etc.

If this works, the RAM is at fault. If it doesn't it has ruled the RAM out, and points to the hard disk!

Looks similar to this:

What is the Toshiba laptop model number?

HDDs fail pretty regularly. Just buy a new one online and swap it out (dead simple job on anything that's not apple)
Pretty cheap and even going budget you'll probably end up with a better and bigger drive than you had before.

I blank that part out, its too painful. Though if you multi-task and drink beer/watch footy or have a spliff/watch disney the time passes ok.

Sling it in the bin and go to the Apple shop. This is what I was advised many years ago and it works.

Ah, the mandatory Apple post, I think Bozza generates these automatically and disguises them by posting from other people's accounts.
