[NSC] NSC has changed for the wurst

I will add that starting a thread that is basically attacking unnamed other users of the forum, in a sly nudge-nudge way, inviting others to gang up on them, isn't a great look. Statbro came off NSC for a while due, in part I think, to this sort of thing. I find him a bit troubling so have put him on ignore. This feels better to me than trying to bully him. And yet.....I am aware that I always jump on one particular poster when I see their posts bounced (I have them on ignore so I never see the originals). I'm feeling a bit guilty about that. I think I should make an effort to stop doing it. Happy to have my homework marked in a few weeks.

(And the correct response to this post is TL-DR  )

Yep, a furtive way of getting bullying going.

I didn't enjoy the unpc binfest because it ceases to be a useful board and folk have learnt generally (aside of those who will never learn) to conduct themselves. That doesn't mean no-one can take the piss, of course they can. I miss being taken the piss out of so much that I have to do it myself sometimes.

However, the bullying and unkindness seems to have calmed. Remember, an unpc binfest generally targets the same group of people all the time. It's fine if your not part of it, but a bit like fox hunting.

I'm a sensitive chap to others. Possibly because I experienced bullying as a kid for being odd and a bit gay. So I tend to rally to the side of those who do get bullied. Zeb is a poster in question there. So what if he makes long posts ? I find most of them informative and if I don't fancy reading them I won't.

On one of non league teams I follow there is a regular poster who is on the spectrum. Constantly posts pictures at railway stations etc with nonsensical text. Most folk get it and either 'like' or quietly have them on 'ignore'. However, one or two made mention of them not being quite the ticket. I found that very upsetting as it shows that ignorance is still out there.

An 'unpc binfest' is often a thinly veiled smokescreen for 'Why can't we be cruel about people for laughs anymore ?' And is often led by those who are least likely to be on the end of it. One would hope all that stuff could be left back in the 70s.

UnPC binfests do survive however. And a short hop to Argus Comments is suggested for those who wish to have a experience of the cave.

All good points and I would be mortified if I were seen as a bully. When young I often got myself into scraps by trying to defend the poor sods who were being bullied. Most of the people on the binfests I am thinking about could defend themselves no problem RIP BHA Express being one of them who loved a binfest. Ben’s Grandad also RIP inspired a few and to his credit I don’t think I ever saw him react badly or lose his rag.

As a long time lurker before I started to post, I don't think the quality of the forum has gone down. However, it is noticeable over the past few years that some posters have got in to a habit of feeling the need to personally respond to every reply to one of their points. Unfortunately this just tends to disrupt the flow of the conversation and ends up getting unnecessarily heated. Then other voices either get lost in the thread, and people stop posting on that thread. There are several threads where you think what is the point.

It was at its wurst (I believe we have to use that spelling now) when our Swedish friend was on the site (although I quite liked much of his football related comments).

I liked @Bozza 's idea of limiting the number of times any poster can add to a forum over a specific time period. That will give people chance to pause and reflect before posting and for other voices to be heard.

Finally, NSC is a great forum, and full of life, diverse people and views, and most of all humourous and humane and kind people.

Long may it continue.

Um the OP said I was one of the two worst and had me on ignore for TD;DR - how is that not directed at me? And the follow up posts digging at my post counts? Most of which I responded to with a 😂

I honestly don’t bother much with ignoring threads - they are easy enough to skip past but if people’s posts are making me feel uncomfortable or are overtly hostile, or gaslighting me suggesting that I am imagining being mocked, then off course I’m going to use the ignore button

What else is it for?

As I said, put feel free to me on ignore if my many long posts upset you. 👍
Erm please quote where I have said upset ..couldn’t care less ..it’s a Micky take that was quite gentle imo ..personally I suggest we move on

Imho the tedious nadir was the Brexit debate years and first few months of lockdown 1, the same characters on both sides infecting almost every thread 24-7.

Solved overnight by The Bear Pit, thank you @Bozza, then latterly the Ignore Thread option. The ironic thing was that one-eyed party zealots largely stopped posting politics. That can only be because their grandstanding didn’t then harvest likes :lolol: .

I think NSC is in a good place, the best ever.

Been using NSC for 20+ years.

It probably was better back in the day, but then again, weren't most things... BHAFC being an exception.

The internet in general has resulted in people increasingly becoming the 'main character'. People also seem to be less empathetic and tolerant of each other these days. This is reflected on NSC and all other social media. It also can't help that back in the day people had to boot up a computer to access these things, whereas having access 24/7 has probably resulted in less desirable behaviours.

In regards to NSC specifically, not too much has changed in terms of its culture. However there seems to be one moderator on here who resorts to authoritarian threats and actions, and sometimes abusive language. I'm sure the common punter on here can get away with it from time to time - but when someone who should be leading by example behaves that way, it's not a good look and can't be good for the websites culture, as it's apparent that the userbase respects those with a 'moderator' slogan next to their avatar.

Ah apologies - I thought you were making a dig at the length of my posts - but you were only joking - it’s inviting bullying as @Westander pointed out to start threads complaining about two unnamed (or at least I was later named) other posters.

Please don’t tell me to “move on” and stop invalidating how I feel. This whole thread, with the nuances and mocking behaviour disguised as “jokes” are distinctly off and unpleasant.

If it gets too much, I can put people on ignore or they can put me on ignore if my posts upset or bother them in anyway.

It’s really simple 🙂
First paragraph noted and agreed..you’ll note my emoji and of course Dazzer was only joking as well
“Move on” ..had a ‘we’ in front of it ..as in you and me move on re this little spat (said nicely) …I wasn’t saying you move on from all the other stuff that’s your business..ok?

I know you were both joking - but when it happens constantly and has become a trope for numerous other posters, it just doesn’t feel like it. One post by you or Daz joking about me writing long posts (and editing my posts to mock me) gets numerous “likes” so no, it’s not adequate to say that what is going wrt my posts on NSC is “only” a joke. As I keep saying, there are many posters who post as long or longer posts than me (and more of them on a daily basis) so I am feeling unfairly targeted for one thing. The majority of my posts are actually one paragraph. So, tbh I’m am at the point where if anyone does that now, I’ll put them on ignore for a while - it really is impacting on the way I enjoy NSC and life is too short to feel bullied or targeted for being autistic (part of the not getting jokes and being too detailed in posts 😎).

Agree to “move” on wrt with us.😘

There's probably actually a long word meaning having to look up long words!
It's actually quite a short word. Aphasia.
