How’s everyone getting on?

I’ve needed to be careful as I’ve actually been losing weight a little too quick the past couple of weeks - did have some sort of viral thing (who knows whether it was IT or not) and my appetite completely went for about 4 days. Starting to get it back now.

UPDATE:

Jan
Week 1 - 16st 9lbs
Week 2 - 16st 11lbs
Week 3 - 16st 7lbs
Week 4 - 16st 8lbs

Feb
Week 5 - 16st 8lbs - started to really focus on macros from here - adjusting diet to take on more protein and less carbs...
Week 6 - 16st 4lbs
Week 7 - 16st 2lbs
Week 8 - 16st

Mar
Week 9 - 15st 12lbs
Week 10 - 15st 7lbs
Week 11 - unfinished (Friday today) but likely to end around 15st 3lbs.

End goal - 12st 8lbs (and a healthy BMI) by end of 2020. However at current rate I may get there before the end of the year.

Bloody Worthing!
Is anyone using the acres of extra time at hand to improve fitness? I am refugee from the NSC Running thread (my knee is f*ck*d) where the lads seem to be throwing themselves into (appropriately socially distanced) training. Is anyone here cracking on with new exercises/targets etc?

My missus has 'out-planked' me (she is up to 3 minutes) but I'm trying to make a come-back with upping my pull-ups. I'm up to 15. Anyone doing similar stuff to keep sane (obviously I've failed)?

15 is more than my half and enough to stop me entering a keyboard fight with you. What do you use a door frame?
5kg dumbbells for me but off to buy a pair of 3kg to add in manoeuvres that can’t lift 5kg.

Must give the planking a go ASAP.

Actually I use just about anything when I'm out. Tree branches are good if you don't mind the splinters! But I've just got a standard door-frame bar at home. On the planking thing, lots of folk swear by them (article in last week's Times suggesting that it's the best single exercise) but I find that there's a bit of a pull on my groin (but not in a nice way!).
Like most stupid blokes I tend to just do the things that I'm good at (like the guys who join gyms just to get big guns). My legs are like pipe-cleaners, I'm weak a pish but I can do tons of pull-ups, press-ups and dips. Sad really.
I don't think there's much danger of you turning into a gym monster just yet...……………(Danger that I might bore-off any other potential users of this thread.)

Bought a rowing machine after Christmas, so will be making waves (or not) in the world of Strava rowing. Currently just on 3k at a time but will steadily increase.

Early morning solo runs until we're not allowed to do those any more. But I dug out a skipping rope the other day. Never used it before but reading up it's excellent exercise when you're stuck at home and you get the technique quickly. I started with ten normal skips, ten on right leg, ten on left leg, then 9 normal skips, nine on right leg, nine on left leg etc. Haven't got the coordination or fitness to do that in one straight hit yet, but when I do I'll up it to 12 and so on.

Just to preach to the converted, today's I newspaper carries some research linking exercise (specifically steps) with lower blood pressure: participants' blood pressure was about 0.45 points lower for every 1000 daily steps.
I'm not really into the science, but the overall message was clear.

I’m keeping up a daily run - on a 23 day streak now. (And a dog walk too). Round my way it’s fairly isolated anyway. Occasionally pass other runners , cyclists and dog walkers but it’s very quiet.

Original plan was to do the 40 days of Lent which now seems like a breeze of a target (I’m doing about 8k a day with a long run at weekends ) but I imagine I’ll just keep going.
Given the other benefits - I’m now 12 stone something for the first time since my 20s !! - I think it makes sense given the current guidance.

As with others - it’s a real mental boost/gives structure to the day and some semblance of normality now that much else has stopped . And also keeps me off Twitter , work comms for an hour or two which we can all do with a break from. So great to hear the stories on here and how everyone is doing.

Yesterday was day 50 of my runstreak which will keep going until I'm injured. Given my past form, it's only a matter of when not if!

It's a mixture of road runs and "dog jogs" where I combine a run and dog walk in one. On top of the run/dog jog, I'll walk the dog another 2-3 times each day for around a mile or so each time.

My aim this year is to average over 20,000 steps per day. I got off to a slow start due to an Achilles injury in January, and averaged 15,949/day, February included a week on holiday so averaged 18,978/day. This month I'm getting things back on track and I'm averaging nearly 21,000 steps per day. That still only has me averaging 18,300 for the year so I have 137,700 (81 * 1,700) steps to still make up!

West is BEST
Gym’s out so have adapted my workout to weights at home and runs and circuits out in the park. Not going to be making much gains with limited facilities but I enjoy improvising and am confident I can stay in good shape.

I was 16 stone 5 at my peak last May - I’m 6 foot 2.

- i stopped drinking 20 months ago
- I try and avoid sugar, biscuits, cakes, crisps, cheese grazing now but not 100% - and still eat carbs .
- I run about 40-50k a week but only in earnest since last summer
- I do a fair bit of walking too cos I have the dog , used to make that part of my commute and play /coach football twice a week (but that’s all stopped !)

Best part of 20k steps for me today and a hilly if short bike ride. Amazing the difference to your sense of well-being, especially if the sun is shining.

I managed over 10k steps a day for about 2/3 weeks in a row - works absolute wonders for your mental health.

Fantastic effort......

It is, isn’t it ? Over on the Official Running Thread we can get a bit geeky about races, times, mile splits, Strava segments and all that bollocks, but for the last couple of years the biggest benefit for me of running has been to my mental health. The physical benefits are important but almost a by-product.

There is no better time than now for people to start (let’s face it, there’s **** all else to do). Walk, jog, whatever.....get out in the fresh air and get your heart pumping.

Too right. There's all sorts of research which supports this view. The combo of exercise and countryside is a right tonic. (Apologies for the technical terms!)
