Correct. I thought I could try and 'disguise' my identity more by including loads of crap songs, but where's the fun in that (ask [MENTION=12101]Mellotron[/MENTION])? Glad you mainly enjoyed it and let me know if there's anything you'd like to hear more of.

Yeah, sorry it took so long to review it. We've got a couple of new additions to the Staly household due in July and so there's always a job to be done around the place. Hope yours turns up soon.

Right my review...

firstly, lovely cover :

the back was a track listing:

1. Cult of personality - Living Colour : Starts with some heavyish guitar. Not heard this before. It's OK
2. Pretty Little Lie - Blackberry Smoke : This one has a bit of a country sound, reminds me a bit of the Eagles, just not as polished
3. Better Days - Bruce Springsteen : From Lucky Town, the first Springsteen album I didn't buy. I don't know why I've not got any Bruce stuff since either. I think as he went more mainstream I went off him...
4. Supernatural Superserious - REM : I really like REM , always worth a listen
5. Iris - Goo Goo Dolls : Not so keen, rather formulaic American rock.
6. 50 ways to say goodbye - Train : A bit of a latino feel, a genre that I'm not really au fait with and not overly bothered by.
7. Springsteen - Eric Church : Getting a bit country here, another I'm not taken by.
8. Hey Brother - Avicii fet Dan Tyminski : Country and western meets dance. Mrs H might like it, I don't much.
9. Tattoos & Scars - Montgomery Gentry : One of those "deep and meaningful" country tunes, not for me.
10. The Entertainer - Billy Joel : Nope
11. Family Tradition - Hank Williams Jr. : Another country tune, another one to skip over, sorry.
12. Drift Away - Dobie Grey : An old classic, easy listening. It's ok.
13. She's so California - Gary Allan : Again, too much of a country feel to this.
14. Jeremy - Pearl Jam : Never really got into Pearl Jam, dunno why as I quite like this. Nearly the highlight of the CD.
15. I hold on - Dierks Bentley : He starts off singing about his pickup truck which says it all really.
16. Cannonball - Pat Green : Another one with a country-ish feel but I quite like it.
17. Deja Vu (All over again) - John Fogerty : I really like CCR and JF. This one is the best on the CD.
18. Enter Sandman (live) - Zac Brown Band : I don't much like the Metallica version and this one isnt as good.

Overall this CD has a bit of a country feel to it; I'm very sorry but it's not something I was overly taken with, others might enjoy it more.

I adore the track 'Jeremy' FWIW. It brilliantly captures a moment in pop / rock history. Fabulous.

My new addition turned up 19 months ago... oh, I see; many congratualtions sir. I'm not sure if these are your first, but be prepared to become initimately acquainted with the crack of dawn.

Maybe we can start a 'Reasons why CBeebies is ace / crap' thread in a year or so?

Seriously, I think PJ get a bit of unfair stick. It's almost like noone can forgive Eddie Vedder for not being a drug addict who comitted suicide. Contrary to popular belief they've managed to keep the qulity up pretty impressively throughout their career.

But the point you make is an extremely valid one. I'd almost forgotten nickleback ever existed.

We're adopting, so my youngest is around the same age as your 19 monther. I'm hoping we might miss out on the worst of the sleeplessness. Apparently she's a huge fan of In The Night Garden and Peppa Pig.

Who do we blame for Bush? Nirvana? I never really liked Nirvana (except for about three songs) and I blame them for (a) destroying an at the time fertile music scene in the UK and (b) replacing it with a load of total bilge. I think Dave Grohl is a nice man though, and I like the way Kurt was a C86 fan (of sorts). I'll get on with my work now.

Breezeblocks - Alt J - Enjoyed this, haven't heard much of Alt J but going to check out more of them.

Lonley Road - Everlast - Superb, I've always enjoyed Everlast and this is up there with my favourite tracks of his.

Turn Your Lights On - Everlast - Not as good as the previous track but still very enjoyable.

The People - The Music - Wasn't sure about this track at first but it's grown on me.

Rain - The Cult - Love this track, haven't heard it in ages. Great stuff.

Rebel Rebel - David Bowie - A classic by Bowie.

History Song - The Good, the Bad and the Queen - I'm a fan of most of Damon Albarn's stuff but I couldn't get into this.

Feel Good Inc. - The Gorillaz - More Damon Albarn and this is one I like. Good stuff.

Storm Warning - I am Kloot - Just couldn't get into this.

Let Them All In - I am Kloot - Again just couldn't get into it.

Flake - Jack Johnson - I can't say I've heard a lot of Jack Johnson but I quite like this, easy to listen to and catchy. Think I need to checkout more of his stuff.

The Sweet Escape - Kasabian - I quite like Kasabian so enjoyed this, this comes from the BBC Live Lounge Album and I love some of the covers the Live Lounge throws up.

Natural Blues - Moby - One of my favourite Moby tracks.

Sexy Chick - Paloma Faith - Really like everything I've heard of her but she isn't someone I'd seek out to buy the music of but this was very enjoyable, it's the sort of track I can imagine being covered a lot by twats that think they can sing when auditioning for Simon Cowell.

Stumble and Fall - Razorlight - I love this track. Great stuff

The Lodgers - The Style Council - Another great track.

Pain Killer - Turin Brakes - Not heard much of their stuff but I liked this.

Inbetween - Turin Brakes - Liked this too. Need to check out more of their stuff I think.

Overall a very good CD for me, quite a lot I liked and only a couple I didn't really enjoy. Obviously I know who sent it, but I'll leave others to guess. I won't post the album cover cause I think that has a big clue who it is from.

Ten is the only PJ record I've evr owned, so can't comment on the rest of their output. I just think Mellotrons argument is a very harsh one. Why should any band be maligned for the later, lesser bands they inspire?

Read my second comment. To be fair, I was a Chili Peppers fan as a kid and didn't notice how awful Keidis' voice was for quite a few years.

It IS a harsh argument, but one I've used too, so there we are - however, I fully accept, of course, that the influential cannot control the quality of those that they influence.
