Scientology is not a religion.

Why not? Scientology followers believe a lot of utter nonsense, persecute those who don't share or attack their beliefs and prey upon the fears of the weak and/or sick in order to make money and gain influence. Sounds like any other religion to me.

I'm shocked to see that the majority of NSC people are Godless heathens

i'd be interested to know how many of those voting "christianity" actually practice it

Interesting point, a lot of people who say they're Christians don't attend any form of Church. I have some relatives that belong to a Christian religion that doesn't actually believe in going to church but in fact are still devout Christians (to the point where they assured me that I would 'burn in Hell' as I was an atheist).

All religion is bunkum. Fact.

Seriously - the only question I wrestle with, and I do so frequently, is ... if someone wants to believe, and it's is all rubbish, does it do any harm ? I always come to the conclusion that anything based on a lie, is probably not good in any form.

The problem is when people will try to inflict their beliefs on people who are not interested in them. If people who believe in whatever would accept that theirs is not the only way life would be a lot simpler would it not ?

Indeed but it is impossible, or at least very difficult to have rational arguments about these things. I has occurred to me that fervently religious people can be adamant in their beliefs, because to entertain the thought of being wrong, could mean they have wasted part of their life contemplating empty promises.

Most people who believe in a deity are pretty sincere hence they are very unlikely to accept any other point of view. In itself that's their personal choice and as long as they don't have any effect on others there's no harm done. When it's a problem is when they will not accept that others have different beliefs (or lack there of). Frankly I get irritated when somebody stops me in the street to try and convince me that they have seen the proverbial light. It also bothers me that religions have far too much say in politics as it's usually to the detriment of the populace wherever it may be. I wouldn't bet against this lunatic who went on the rampage in Arizona is in fact a religious zealot. I could be wrong about God, Allah, Budda whoever but this logic of the notion convinces me that they are myths, however that is my own personal choice.
