90% of members are 40+
85% of members are male
I'd say the age range is more spread out, but you're probably right about the sex, I'd say it's more like 95% male too.

Based on the responses it seems like there aren't THAT many questions that can be asked, which is surprising. I'm still going to chuck something together, but it looks like I'll have to think of my own questions!

Haha, I chose the word sex carefully, I don't want to open that can of worms!
Why not? I think gender is interesting.
I suspect lots of people confuse gender not just with sex but also with sexual orientation.
My guess is 99% would report as male or female.

If you are interested in NSC demographic and want some questions to define its diversity, try these:

Age (I suggest these options: under 16, 17-25, 26-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, over 70).
Most will be over 40 so that's were you need granularity of option).

Highest qualification (none, in-work certification or GCSEs, A levels, university degree) - I rate GCSEs with in work qualifications hence the combo.

Home owner (Y/N)

Is the Albion the primary club you follow today? Y/N (this covers equivocation over having a soft spot for Liverpool versus being an actual Liverpool fan, etc.).

Do you live in the city of Brighton and Hove (Y/N)

Biological sex (M or F)

Sexual orientation (H or non-H; granularity here is not worthwhile as a high % will be H).

How's that? The quiz must be set up as anonymous.

but if you want to see what the diversity range on here is-you need to ask sex, gender, sexuality , ethnicity. Thats what makes it diverse shirley? otherwise you are getting a false impression- without the gender, sexuality questions you will end up with a predominately male middle age result which isnt showing the diversity in that group-let alone any others

Good suggestions, thanks! Sounds like you have experience in putting together demographic surveys. And yes, it would definitely be anonymous.

February 2025 and I've been on this forum for almost 15 years. It's one of the longest commitments I've ever had in my life, and I wouldn't even consider myself an old member of the community.

One thing that has always struck me about NSC is the amount of diversity on the board. The locations around the world people live, the different jobs NSC members have and even the different levels of income.

It's always fascinated me how such a diverse and thriving community has come together on a message board and grown while many other websites have fallen by the wayside in the same amount of time (especially forums).

As a bit of a statistics nerd, it's been my intention for a while to devise a survey - a sort of NSC Consensus - to allow us to see a breakdown of NSC members and analyse some statistics. Purely for fun!

So, great hive mind of NSC, if there was a consensus, what questions would provide an interesting insight into our community?

So far I've got :

- Age (range)
- Location
- Sex
- Team supported

Over to you!
That's a simple one.

leftwing right-wing.

Rich or poor

Leave remain, young old

Somewhere in the middle or none of the above.

Its 1 tribe, all have the same love of Albion coursing through our veins. Shared euphoria shared pain, all in the same boat we can't escape.

All with the same lifelong love affair.

UTA!
