I used to play for my school back in the day and managed to beat the teacher who ran the school chess club, who got a bit miffed.
I haven't played for ages and can't find people here who can.
I taught my youngest daughter how to play, but she is growing up now, busy and can't remember how to play.
A dying art, oh, and go to bed.

Are you in OzMike

I used to play, ages ago. Happy to enter, but may find I don't have time, so probably depends on the format.

When I was in junior school (Woodingdean 1965-66) we had a chess club on Friday afternoons and we also played against other schools as well. One tournament with 3-4 schools playing my brother begged me to teach him the 4-move checkmate before we started (I beat him with it all the time) so I relented and told him the moves. His first game lasted 30 seconds and yes he won with the 4-move checkmate. I have played only a couple of times since those early days but strangely enough my daughter was playing against her boyfriend last night, she lost 3-0 and she told me to butt out when I tried to help her with a few moves.

so are you you in?

I think my only chance is if I put my opponent moves into the ipad chess app I downloaded then I could reply with the computer move. Reckon I might get found out though as it may look a bit suspicious if a crap player like me suddenly looks like Bobby Fischer and wins a few matches :lolol:

Theres a fantastic, though not purist tournament called the Fischer Random where the back 8 positions are randomised differently
Fascinating to watch and would probably break your app

Anyone remember seeing Derren brown think I recall beating 8 top/grandmasters all at the same time by remembering each move 8 boards ahead and playing their moves again the opponent, shear genius, and IIRC he didnt even play chess.

I'm struggling a bit to decide whether to have a knockout now, a league (round robin is out the question now, more uptake than I thought) or start an NSC/BHAFC team to take on the worlds football clubs teams chess clubs and become champs of the world. I think we could do it, feedback appreciated. I have limited time but whats your views entrants? I am awaiting feedback for mr Peter Ward but all suggestions welcome on how we should play this. I have 3 days before hospital so wanna get this set up tommorrow if I can. I am starting to think a 32 strong NSC team to be world champs, I dunno

For my part I cant always commit to being available to play all the time but to be honest Im not sure how the different format possibilities work. Do you play a game a night or make moves over a certain period like a week or something?? I think I might be more of a dip in dip out sort of guy so if you can outline the various options with a bit more detail it would help thanks

A 32-strong league may be a bit cumbersome. How about a two division league. There are those who are regular players in the top 16 and people like me, who haven't played competitively for 40 years, in the second. 30 games, every plays W&B once and promotion/relegation at the end of the season

That could work, without knowing players abilitys I wouldnt be sure how to grade the 2 leagues

I really like the idea of having NSC/BHAFC as world chess football club champs
I see it 3 ways at the moment
Champions league style(ish) with groups of 8 and tournament style (if we dont hit the magic 32 then a couple of people will get byes)
FA cup style, straight knockout, paired up, guage our levels for the world cup/2 leagues
NSC team to start a team and take on the rest of the world

I think 2 days, or 3 if you prefer is the right amount of time per game should suffice for member to dip in and out for family/work reasons

I need to speak with Peter Ward who I think has more online chess experience than me
