Good luck. What are you going to specialise in

Dunno yet, my dissertation is mainly on oncology (at the moment!), I liked working in the infectious diseases unit on placement, and i really would like to do practice working - but you really need some experience first.

For whom the bell tolls - Ernest Hemmingway 10/10 a true classic
Homage to Catalonia - George Orwell - still reading this ,but so far a great insight into the spanish civil war first hand.
A fascinating conflict ,im especially interested in the efforts of the international brigades who volunteered for the republic .

i just read the road to wigan pier as i thought i should eventually even though it sounded dull. some funny derogatory references to Brighton like this one

"There is at least a tinge of truth in that picture of Southern England as one enormous Brighton inhabited by lounge-lizards. "

Excellent news. 'tis VERY good, I thought. There is also a DVD out, but it is not a patch on the book.

You might enjoy this as a preview.

D'oh! Thanks for that.

He's been knocked down by a truck in the Chilean desert, chased by a mob through the streets of Haiti, burnt by a volcano in Central America, and arrested and shot at more times than he cares to remember.

But in 44 years on the road, covering 335,000 miles or more than ten times around the Earth, Heinz Stücke has always had his lucky bicycle for company - until this week, when the German 'Bike Man' had it stolen within a few hours of arriving in the UK.

Interesting, I thought Join Me was a decent enough read but I wouldn't score it that high. Story was better than the quality of writing.

I also have Penguins Stopped Play waiting for a going over and your recommendation has bumped it up the pile a little so that will be consumed shortly.

For me however I have just finished Aldous Huxley's Brave New World which I think was a cracking book. I kind of like the idea of a future like that, even if it proved to be ultimately flawed. I give it an 8.1. Apparently this is a common book on GCSE and A Level reading lists now. I envy the youth of today because that is a damned sight better than the muck I used to have to go through when I was a teenager

Prior to that I churned through the latest Adrian Mole - The Prostate Years. Probably one for Mole fans more than anything else but I'm not ashamed to admit that I love Adrian Mole and his quirks.

I also enjoyed Graham Greene's Monsignor Quixote, not one of his more celebrated books, after I found a copy lying around on a bench. I enjoyed it very much despite not being a fan of the Catholic Church as a whole. That gets a 7.8.

I'm now about to embark on the original From Russia With Love by Ian Fleming in honour of Brighton libraries' featuring this as city read of the month. I shall report back with my findings

Oh I do agree. I didn't score it simply upon the quality of writing, I found the whole thing inspiring and it cheered me up no end after a difficult few weeks. The score is linked to that.

Wallace is good, but obviously not a Shakespeare.

I love Fleming's Bond, so much better than most films.
They are my bog standard holiday read, so I haven't read one for a while

Entirely fairy nuff, I wasn't criticising and I certainly enjoyed it. I've also read Gorman's Googlewhack book which is in a similar vein however Wallace is easily a better writer.

Have you read Yes Man too?
