Got back last night and watched the highlights, the TV did not do the carnage justice. Wierd to watch, we were near the finishing line and everyone was going mad for Hoy who had no idea that everyone had crashed behind him. In amongst the euphoria of the crowd the officals were urging the riders back on thier bikes as the silver and bronze medals were up for grabs.

The NZ rider Niblett grasped this first followed by a Polish rider, Awang though got back on his bike and beat him by a fraction, he then rode around the bend out of sight and collapsed. No one seemed to know he was there and when a steward eventually went over to him they were frantically trying to get a medic over. At this time we all saw him trying to get up and screaming and all thought he had a metal spike or spoke through his leg, it was difficult to watch.

By now the score had flashed up and Awang was given forth place, Hoy was back on the rollars and Niblett walking around proudly showing everyone including Hoy his wounds. The medics got Awang onto a stretcher and he was wheeled past us waving to us as he pointed to what we now saw was a splinter. The officals in front of us reviewed the result on thier monitors behind hands and split fingers and awarded Awang bronze.

What we found amazing was there appeared to be no blood and they kept it in his leg over night. I was really hoping he would be wheeled on the next day to collect his medal and world cup winners jersey. Still beats his normal wheely over the line celebration, hope he can make the World Championships in Apeldorph next month.
