We've still created chances against teams that have put 11 behind the ball. F*cked those chances obviously but we've still created them.

I thought this was going to be a 'Would we be winning these games if there were crowds in the grounds?' type elephant.

This but could that ‘target man’ be Welbeck or Zeqiri. With our financial loses, I think the club would prefer to stick with that pair rather than summer spunking?

I'm not really fussy who it is, just someone who can win the odd header from a cross. It might even be a case of pushing Dunk or White forward as an option for 5-10 minutes toward the end of a game, something I've rarely seen us do recently when we're pushing for a win.

We haven't dominated possession in the games since the start of the year and I think that this helps a bit. If you let teams have a bit more of the ball, most will try to do more than just play it around their back four and this can lead to them giving you opportunities. The introduction of Sanchez has coincided with a flexibility that sees us sometimes going long from the keeper rather than always playing out from the back and this has been great because it can create potential for attacking situations more quickly. The slow build up has often resulted in too many being committed forward at one time attacking a packed final third with gaps in behind meaning that our chances are more difficult than the opposition's.

It won't be easy and I wouldn't be surprised if Dyche turns us over at the weekend. Burnley's recovery this season began with a very disciplined performance at the Amex that got the point they came for. If they take the same approach at Turf Moor they are very capable of stifling anyone and hurting teams when they have the opportunity. We need to be similarly disciplined. They have players who are very good at delivering and attacking set pieces, so we need to be on our game there, or to not concede them. Also, if our last man gives the ball away on the half way line like we did against Fulham, Burnley are far more likely to take advantage.

Quick, one touch football around the box.
Let Ale Mac & Biss shoot on sight.
Pass backwards to draw them out (many fans won't like this)
Patience.

Even Man city struggle on occasions against teams that like to stick 11 behind the ball.

It’s the next step to work on - but we showed against Fulham we could do it - XG thing was 2.5 to their 0.5 or so I think. It’ll come good I’m sure :clap2:

a galaxy far far away
This

plenty of money shots . . . . from 20 yards or more, all top corner stuff

so play Biss-AliMac-AJ across the edge of the 18 yard line and Connolly to pick up rebounds

So get Potter to ask his players to shoot from over 20 yards into the top corner?

I like your plan. Let's try it

The answer is simple. Keep doing what we do but have soemone who can score goalds. For the style we play Maupay and Connolly are great. We need terriers. But both of them are niot reliable enough infront of goal.

So who have we got who has expereince of scoring goals but is also a terrier?

Dare I say it........ Andone!

I think Potter when he came thought to build around Andone and then we all know what happened next. I assume he's at least two-three months from challenging for the first team again but that is conditional on him having mended fences with the rest of the team (Bernardo, at least, has gone). But Andone is Maupay plus goalscoring and either one of them starts firing or we need to look for something similar.

Thought this thread was going to be about the two goalkeepers on the bench last night.

What the **** was that all about?

There are always 3 keepers in the travelling party for an away match, in case one gets ill / injured.

I guess what happened last night is that somebody else who should have been on the bench, felt unwell, or picked up a niggle, so they thought they might as well fill the available space with the extra keeper.

Interestingly, Maupay’s and Andone’s scoring stats (at least according to wiki) are almost identical;

Maupay 77 in 248
Andone 75 in 240

Each time I watch the Sheff Utd highlights, it’s clear that there were at least 4 goals there for someone like Wilson, Bamford, Ings or Wood; strikers from the lower half of the table who take their big chances.

You watch the Sheff Ytd highlights multiple times!!:eek:

Don't think I manged to watch them once.

I think their goal per game ratio is pretyy similar for us to.
It's just that Andone was feeding off scraps for most of his appearances.

I would love to see him fit and given a real go in this team.
