Nottingham Forest - wheels falling off?

This is fair enough. After all, Forest have a net spend of £7.8m on transfer fees alone this season, compared to £2.3m last year, so that's an extra £5.5m on the losses before you even consider that all the new signings will need to be paid all season.

Their Kuwaiti chairman mentions increasing sponsorships from his home country in order to meet FFP, so maybe that is now their plan? Either way, I'm just a bit surprised at how a club NSC so frequently slams for spending money is within £2.4m of us as recently as last season, although I suspect you are right and the gap will widen significantly this season when it counts.

Until an accountant goes through the figures we don't know if last season's losses at Forest were front loaded. They could be spending £10M more this season for all we know on the basis the sponsorship deals cover the deficit and they can still fall within the 2013/2014 FFP guidelines.

I read that most of the Doughty family money owing was converted to equity (£80m) but that about £20m had been repaid by the Kuwaitis.

However, I think this season you can characterise the Forest strategy (and Leicester's) as 'sh1t or bust'. If they don't get promoted, I suspect Davies thinks he may no longer be in the chair and therefore the 2nd half of next season (when FFP would bite) would be someone else's problem.

If Forest don't go up I think Billy Davies will be one of the first managerial casualties next season.
