I thought we ended that, but the Guardian said that Liverpool did. Did we finish a different unbeaten run???

I seem to remember us winning 1-0 with a Gerry Ryan goal on a mud heap of a pitch

i seem to remember it was us winning 1-0 on a heap of pitch but it was Gary Williams from 30 yards (with Motson saying - and you dont beat Shilton from 30 yards).

Thats what I remeber as well, that was my second game watching the Albion !!

RIght - lets put the record straight.

Liverpool ended their 42 match unbeaten run when they beat Forest 2-0 at Anfield on 7 December 1978

We ended Nottingham Forest's 42 home match unbeaten run when we beat them 1-0 at the City Ground on 17 November 1979. Gerry Ryan scored the goal on an absolute mud-heap of a pitch which saw Larry Lloyd and Dave Needham kick lumps out of our forwards all night.

We then beat them 1-0 again in the return fixture at the Goldstone when Gary Williams scored a "thirty yard screamer" into the South Stand goal

29/3/80 Sat. FL D1 (h) W 1-0 (0-0) G.Williams 25,128
17/11/79 Sat. FL D1 (a) W 1-0 (1-0) G.Ryan 25,837

It was actually Forest's 52 match unbeaten home run that we ended on Saturday November 17th 1979 with a 12th minute goal from Gerry Ryan.

It was also the Albions first ever away win in the First division (that's the old first division that's now called the premiership which was also once the Premier league. Not to be confused with the current league 1 which was once division 3 and last year was division 2 or indeed the division that the Albion now play in which was once division 2 but more recently has been division 1 and is now the championship. I hope that's clear!)

And I was there when we won 1-0

Marvellous scenes...pissed with rain if I remember and we had played 7 away games up to that point of the season and lost the lot. Robertson missed a penalty as well. Even though it is 25 years ago, I can recall that day with clarity.

I was there too, spent almost 80 minutes watching the clock countdown not able to believe we didn't concede.
