Your right, nobody was moaning at the time, because we had faith in the manager that had just won a championship. Almost two years on, that faith is somewhat diminished.

Please don't put us all in the "didn't moan" camp. Murray was my favourite player at Withdean. Big, skilful, technically excellent and great in the air. He was an absolutely vital part of the League winning squad. And his strike rate was fabulous. I was gutted when he left and always thought it was a mistake.

What really f...s me off is the only 6 goals in his first season at Palace shite. He was adjusting and he was in a team playing a different way to Gus. BTW he destroyed Man Utd in the CC at Old Trafford. Now he's going to get 30+ goals for our deadly rivals. It was,with 100% hindsight which is always perfect, a huge mistake not to come to an agreement with Glenn Murray.

You also have to take into account his possible effect on the changing room, and agent talk constantly about a big move. Even if he goes on to score 30 goals for the next three seasons, their will be something in me that says 'Really'..

I haven't, and neither have my pals. I am loving the championship, I enjoy the way we play and I'm really happy with the progress we are making.
Yes, I'm pissed that palace are doing better than us, wish we'd won the games we deserved to etc. But sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture, look at the overall strategy of our football club - we are gearing up for top flight football, there isn't a time limit on when that must happen - what's more important is that it will happen and the infrastructure is in place to stay there - from this point of view we are miles ahead of a club like palace, if they go up this season how long will they be there?

Tony Bloom said at the Seagulls Over Burwash meeting last week that the board and Poyet made Murray an offer (in their view) on his ability as a player but Palace offered him more, it was as simple as that. Still the biggest cock up since letting Dean Saunders go for a song back in the 80's, just wish they'd admit it, but people in football rarely do, ego's get in the way.

His transfer value has depreciated by 50% since he signed for us due to lack of goal scoring and injuries picked up.

I guess the thinking for having 2 pots is that

1) Money from the wages pot is gone forever.

2) Money from the transfer pot may well be clawed back by selling the player on later.

If you offer one player high wages it sets a precedent for others (players and agents talk) which can cost you *massively* in the long-run.

Also, you're stuck paying those high wages even if the player stops performing and/or if the club' fortunes take a downturn.

It's wages (and ongoing costs) not transfer fees, which sends clubs into financial meltdown.

(And TB will be well aware of what happened to the Albion in the 80s, of course)

If I remember correctly at the time the main sticking points were wages (Murray wanted another £500 a week ?) and length of contract (Murray wanted 3 years , the club said 2). His agent was also playing us off against Millwall and Palace for leverage. A stalemate was reached and the rest is history.

The offer (as told by bz himself) could have totalled 3m but was 2m upfront. The offer was also made around Xmas when pushing for promotion under Taylor. He stayed, we got promoted, had him for a season almost stayed up and only got relegated on the last day. And then sold him for 1.5m.

People seem to forget, how many times Murray was warming the bench, or the first striker subbed. The righting was on the wall for Murray, long before the end of that season.

Please don't mention the word, risk and Poyet in the same sentence. The only time Poyet takes a risk, is when we are chasing a game late on. He is probably the most negative manager I can remember at this club, post Bailey and we all know what happened to him(well the ones old enough to remember).
