Ive had my rants about Wilkins.....but overall he's done ok this season, ive now seen the light that as much as I resented his appointment and think at times hes still out of his depth tactically and substitution wise...he certainly has an eye for a half decent players.

When he's been able to keep a solid eleven without them disapearing off to another club or go back from their loan period or just plainly leave due to contract rows.....then its been good.

I have seen some awful performances but also some very good solid displays.

If we went up this year, for me personally now looking at it realistically I think it would be plainly just too soon for him as a manager and the players we have at our disposal.

Bring in a couple of new faces in the summer...maybe sign one or two of the loanees weve had....take away a load of contract arguments....players publically slating the club and running off and with a full season under his belt....a top 5 finish next term could be a realistic target.

Credit where credit's due byf, that's a decent post. Don't totally agree with all of it as I think he has shown flashes of being tactically astute but generally I think youhave made some fair points.

Everyone knows Wilkins is probably the best COACH we have ever produced, he was given a chance to manage the 1st team, I dont even know if he ever managed the youth team or reserves.

This is his 1st full year in charge, and in all honesty we have exceed many peoples season expectations. Yes he is naive in tactics, but it should improve him for next year.

I think we all know the squad as it is probably not good enough to stay up if we got promoted, so maybe it is for the best we dont go up, but I would love it if we went up, yes we would lose more games, and Wilkins would get more slating, but it would be a lot more fun than playing against Peterborough, MK Dons, Yeovil and Crewe again.

Agreed, i'd much rather be going to Wolves etc. We would probably end up getting turned over most weeks. Hopefully we can get a few quality signings in during the summer and then push next season.

But you never know how this season could end up, like they say, its a funny old game!

Indeed, because I confidently predict we'll be steaming straight through next season. Thanks in advance for six points

Agree,

let the team develop, build upon this year, the last half has been rlatively successful, the firsst half diasponting.

I predict if we go up this year, it would a repeat of earlier outings, a year of losses and draws.

Next year I believe we will be a stronger outfit from the beginning and will rightfully, be looking to be in the top 4.

I don't agree, how does not going up help us?
Lower crowds, will that help?
Players being sold to pay for Falmer and lack of revenue i.e Elphick, will that help?
More loan signings, been a bit hit and miss haven't they?
Hit and miss signings, Loft, McFaul, Thomson, more of the same?
Over priced signings, though I think Murray will be a hit, but what about Dixon?
Away trips to Scunnie, Colchester and Barnsley, how enticing?
Peterborough and MK Dons coming up with money to spend and still the prospect of either NF or Leeds or both still being in the division?
Half the squad out of contract, let go, extend contracts or replace?
If you replace, when will these signings take place and how long for them to settle in?
Piss Pot trophy
FA Cup 1st round

Going up -
Increased crowds, maybe just maybe a better atmosphere
More away support at Withdean leading to a better atmosphere
Increased season ticket sales
Increased revenue, exposure, merchandising, TV money, hospitality
FA Cup 3rd round
More chance of "better" players joining
Palace, Southampton, Reading, Fulham, QPR

I agree with most of the things you have said.

I'm of the opinion that "going up" can never be seen as a bad thing.

I've heard people on here saying that the plan is for the team to stay in League One for another two seasons!!! Then get promoted just in time for Falmer.
If this is the case, what is the point in going to watch the team at all for the next few seasons?
I'm not saying this is true, in fact I don't think it is. But these kind of statements really do piss me off.

agree with that - i can understand people saying not going up will help the club, but to say we dont want to get promotion and are content to sit in this league until falmer is plain stupidity

the league is going to be stronger next year as well, as i reckon both mk dons and peterborough will be challenging at the top

tHAT'S BEEN SAID SINCE DON'T KNOW WHEN.

DK will be throwing his money away until he knows we can compete and I mean compete in the Championship, if we get there this year, well that will surprise the whole club, if we compete well next year, with this squad is doubtful.

Will we get more crowds, perhaps to see Palace, perhaps with some of the bigger clubs, but we are a small club at the mo, this is our level.

I don't mind another year at this level, good experience for the players, if we go up, it still be good experience, but Forster will show his age and I believe we will struggle....but so be it.

I would'nt want us to sit in league 1 until Falmer is built, but I do honestly believe that promotion this year would be a year too early.

We would almost certainly struggle, and the second season would be harder as shown by last time, and Colchester, Barnsley, plenty of other clubs. Unless we got some new investment or the current board find some extra cash in the second year we could face being relegated moving into Falmer which would be a bit of a nightmare.

Of course the club should be going for promotion every season, but if we can keep the nucleus of this squad together and build on it again we could go into the Championship much better prepared.

Too early for what ? Do you think we would come straight back down again ?

Without major changes to the squad then we would come straight back down, if you look at our squad I dont think we've got that many players who would be comfortable playing in the championship.

for certain - the squad is nowhere near as good as the one mcghee took up, and that only just survived thanks to some pretty remarkable results

Thank god some people making sense on here. We would be CRUCIFIED going up this year. I say it over and over again but we have massively overachieved in recent years.

People need to step back and realise that having a good balance of senior pro's and talented home growns, a young enthusiastic manager only just tucking a full season under his belt with his team challenging the right end of the league is a very good position to be in with the stadium 3 years away.

Lets finish in a very respectable 8th - 10th place, FINALLY clearout the squad in the summer and let DW bring in some more players. Get a good pre-season (both fitness and games) regime lined up for Murray, try and sign Westlake and Richards and we will be in very nice shape for next season.
