Paul Telfer a real gent :clap2:

BBC story

Telfer gives up Cherries contract

Defender Paul Telfer has cancelled his contract with Bournemouth to help ease their financial worries.

The 36-year-old has a foot injury which requires surgery and the operation would rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Chairman Jeff Mostyn told the club's website: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Telfer for his amazing gesture of support.

"Paul has proved himself to be the ultimate professional."

Mostyn added: "Paul could have chosen to have his operation, which will result in him missing the remainder of the season, and received full pay.

"In order to help the club in its current financial position, he chose to cancel his contract and will receive no further pay. I can not think of a greater gesture of support at this moment in time for the football club."

Er, technically NO - he's proved a rubbish 'proffessional', but fair play to him

Hmmm, would you, having a secure income with one company, jack it in as a "gesture of goodwill", even though you knew they'd keep on paying you for the next six months while you were off sick?

It all sounds lovely, but I'm sure Paul Telfer has a family and mortgage like anyone else, and I find it hard to believe that he would do this out of sheer kindness. Would Mrs Telfer give a shit about Bournemouth's financial plight? No, she wants to be able to feed the kids and buy shoes.

More likely (a) he's already got something else lined up and doesn't want the hassle of having to negotiate with AFCB to go there or (b) he's going to quit playing anyway and will be better off taking a decent insurance payment than scraping by on Bournemouth's crap wages. Or (c) they've given him a decent "incentive" to leave.

Or maybe he really is Mr Generosity. It's the season of goodwill after all, perhaps we'll just take it at face value and applaud his gesture.

oh, you cynics. maybe, just mabye, he recognises that he's amassed a small fortune playing for thousands of pounds a WEEK for all those years. and i bet he's tied up the medical insurance first, then resigned. great gesture and i wish more players knew when to hang up their boots.
