This is unashamedly a nostalgia thread built around a simple quiz format. I wasn’t to revel/wallow in nostalgia of the days of youth in Brighton and thus am setting down some questions to see if any fellow fans have similar memories or recollections as I do.

1. What was the name of the band that used to play the Northern on a Saturday night?

2. What was the name of the record shop adjacent to the Elephant & Castle nr the entrance to the open market on the London Road?

3. What was the name of the sports shop on London road?

4. What was the name of the bloke’s clothes shop on the Western Road. It was near to and on the same side as Churchill Square?

5. Who remembers the smell of the coffee bean shop in Kensington Gardens (I know this is not really a proper question)?

6. What was the name of the chippie (70s) on the upper part of Sackville Rd?

7. What was the name of the resident band in the top rank suite during the 70s/80s?

8. What was the name of the ‘gardening’ type shop on the London Road near the Branch Tavern?

9. What was the name of the café at the bottom corner of Preston Park?

10. What was the name of the disco that first installed lights in the dance floor?

1. Woodbine

I had to dredge the memory for that one - assuming it is the band you were thinking of. They played a demon version of the Bob Seger song, Main Street, I seem to recall and they had one of those Peter Frampton voice box things. Spent many a happy Sat evening there. I'll pass on the others.

Well I was the short guitarist that started Woodbine at the Northern in 1974. We originally played just on Fridays but over the years there we played Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. The lineup was originally ae (Ada) on Guitar & vocals, Wince Weatherill on Guitar & Brian Hussey on Drums. This soon changed to the lineup most people remember.. Wince Weatherill (lead guitar) Bob Hawkins (lead guitar) Ada Stevens (guitar) Stu Parkes (bass) and Richard Cox (drums). We played in many places in Brighton for about 15 years (The Fortune of War and the Connaught in later years)
Not the most politically correct band but a shed load of fun!

I forgot to mention that I was also the short fat guitarist in the Don Pashley Band as well as many years in Jenkinsons with Bobby Sansom.
