Don’t know which are designated away fans only but Norwich is one of THE great cities for pubs in this country: tons of them in and around the town centre, mostly ancient, welcoming and with loads of character. You can do a terrific pub crawl around Tombland alone. So no excuse for frequenting those awful modern ones they’ve built between the station and Carrow Road.

The seaside.
Norwich is indeed probably the best city in England for pubs (to the extent that, after 30 years of living in Brighton, I'm toying with moving there).

The very best ones for ale are to the West of the centre (around Dereham Road) but there's plenty centrally too as Man of Harveys says.

My tip for Carrow Road is the Coach & Horses on Thorpe Road, which I stumbled across by accident when staying in a B&B opposite on an away trip a few years back (before Charlton became a third division club).

It's just up a small hill running alongside the trainline, has its own brewery on site (Chalk Hill Brewery), great prices, decent grub (cheesy chips etc) and is less than 10 minutes walk from the away end, a shortcut that blissfully bypasses that ugly riverfront development of TGI Fridays and Wetherspoonses.

Yes, Coach and 'Orses (as the locals say) is a cracking pub.

I would also recommend the Fat Cat and Canary further up the road. I gave them call on Wednesday and they are happy to serve away fans.

The Fat Cat and Canary has a decent selection of craft beer, if you're into shit generic lager then look elsewhere

Also sounds like “Looking elsewhere” is a wise suggestion if you want to avoid …

What do you think of the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre? I’ll be honest, I’m dead against it. People forget that traders need access to Dixons.

As I've grown older, I have spent less and less time in pubs but have to echo those in here commenting that Norwich has a wealth of decent pubs. My eldest was there until last year and I love the city centre, full of history and a real buzz which surprised me and I never thought of East Anglia as that kind of place.

We’ve been in Norwich about 24 hours now and have been hugely impressed. I hadn’t been here for nearly 50 years and that was a drunken weekend with a mate who was a student here, so I don’t recall much of it. The cathedral is fantastic and today we were at the Sainsbury Centre gallery at UEA. The city centre is really fascinating and ancient. I never knew. Some excellent pubs too. One we visited last night called the Walnut Tree right in the town centre had a great selection of beers and a nice olde-worlde atmosphere. Recommended.

Ssshh don’t tell everyone how great it is. But it really, really is. I’ve just had the best pie ever in the Wig and Pen washed down with Adnams. Highly recommended.
