My mum, who's northern, always uses that Northern catchphrase "Iy've voulted Lay'ber all me life....." when it comes to election time, and it really winds me up. The fools never seem to realise that having been in power for 13 years Labour are about as left wing and socialist as Das Reich. Why can't northerners just accept capitalism, even after they've moved down south to escape their abject poverty and slum clearances? Northerners seem to be stuck in a romantic time-warp when Politicians did care about the people they served. But it's not been like that for 20years+ now at least. It's all about look after number one, get rich quick or die trying etc, and that includes the so called lefties now. So you might as well vote Tory or Liberal and stop pretending Labour look at for the common man.

Not all northerners are like this, but it does annoy me when I get them telling me that they're so much friendlier up here than down south.

Yep another of my mum's favourites. Again, I learnt to counter this many years ago with "no, they're just nosey-er than southerners mum"

Here we go, another NSC thread of sweeping generalisations.

Tis what makes it great though?! And by and large, when it comes to N v S debates, the northerners definitely need taking down a peg or two. We wouldn't give a f** about such debates if it wasn't for every time someone from Yorkshire gets on the tele, no matter if they're Joe Public or a Z list celebrity they can't wait to tell everyone within seconds of appearing "I'm from Yorkshire yer nooow, gods oown contry :bla::bla:

I've lived in the North. It's why I came south again ???

Can't agree Juan. Not sweeping. Look at Manchester back in the 80,s it was going like Liverpool (and i don't think that city has ever fully recovered from Hatton) Now Manchester almost has a european feel about it. Northern U/K has alot going for it. Just raise the bar in what you/family want from life.

I fuckin love living up north.
(although I'd certainly agree that they are living in the past if they they think the Labout party these days are anything like the party they clung to in the 70's/80's)
