My office overlooks this establishment and during the day there is a continuous stream of geriatrics making their way through the door. What's that all about? Do they have special deals on Sherry or something?

It's comfortable, warm, and they can nurse a cheap drink for hours... and they might even meet someone to talk to.

It costs less to sup a couple of pints over the course of 3 hours than it would cost in heating their own home.

Older people appreciate value for money booze just like many younger ones do,I would suggest!

It was just an observation I'm not having a dig at old people. I've just never associated Wetherspoon with such an old crowd, I guess I'm just used to seeing it on Friday and Saturday nights.

I drank in there after the 5-0 win over Orient and the barman in there told us that the drinks were 30p (i think) more expensive than the West Street one, but didn't give any explanation as to why.

This was just on Beer.

Unfortunately, these types of establishments generally attract dross and pi55 heads. I don't mind paying an extra 50p a pint if I'm out for a few drinks with mates or colleagues to by in the company of better clientele.
As for the oldies, good luck to them, picking up a bargain!

Are there any older people left in Brighton or are we all spread all over the UK and maybe the world, looking at the City that once was ours or maybe those who are left are rebelling and going into forbidden areas.
my god they will be going to the cinema's next and eating popcorn.

i think its why they can keep the prices low, becaue they have no dead time. midweek its OAPs, other retiried, and out of work, evenings its the office swift pint on way home, weekends its the youngsters wanting to get through alot of drink cheaply. and all times is student time.

or of course, they have a constant stream of customers because they keep the prices low... maybe other pubs might like to try it?

It's not usually just 50p though it it? More like upwards of £2. Not that I've been in a weatherspoons since I was 18, apart from for the ocassional away match.
