Yes but armed with spears they aren't likely to do too much...

It would be a mercy to the population of North Korea if there was finally a war and they were 'defeated' as their standard of living would go up around 1000%.....

Exactly.....they may have large army numbers but their will to fight will be minimal along with their standard of soldiering! The senior army command will be too easy to bribe to walk away with the promise of amnesty in the west for them and their family. No command....no army!!!
