the only good thing from this is, apparently, the families are not going to start some legal campaign against those soliders that may or may not have shot people. well good for them and i hope that can be the end of the matter. it really is time to put NI behind us, the vast majority of people there want to, so i rather think its time everyone else did too.

This is true. It has always been a minority on both sides who condoned the violence & besides the inbreds everyone has / is moving on. The inquiry has reached its conclusions & it is now time to move on.

Does that really need highlighting though? Is there anyone out there who isn't aware of the actions of the IRA?

Tebbit has a point but in practice I doubt if we will ever find out the true facts on most of what the IRA did and planned and how, if at all they were thwarted.
I'm afraid that, for the good of peace in NI, "justice" and openness and disclosure is selective.

The Saville Inquiry should contribute to truth and reconciliation, not truth and retribution. To prosecute individual soldiers would only compound injustice.

Totally agree about what you say about the IRA. This would also apply to the many 'operations' carried out by the UDA, UVF, UFF etc.

Then clearly you don't read Closer magazine enough. My quote came direct from Sarah Harding at an Ann Summers party last night.

She rightly pointed out that given one of the terms of the Good Friday Agreement was the release of former terrorists on both sides, and an effective amnesty for crimes during the troubles, then this should be extended to members of the Armed Forces too, before extolling the virtues of Swarovski nipple clamps and a smoky bacon flavoured clitoral rub.
