And the answer Baker would give is ...

I would consider the Inspector's Report carefully.

If another site is identified as preferable, it would be for the Football Club to submit a planning application to the relevant Local Planning Authority.

[... which, of course, commits him to nothing. Although, it is the CORRECT answer.]

That does not answer the question.

Could Harty not push him to say where if he was JP he would recommend or what site he feels should be preferable. He has never actually said I believe the club should build the ground at .............

Politicians are reknowned for being able to give an answer but not answer the question. It is only when they are confronted with someone who will not back down until the question is answered that they sometimes begin to wilt.

Surely BG, it is not up to him to suggest a new site, he has made it perfectly clear that he thinks Falmer is not a site he will support.

The way I see it, i that as far as he is concerned, B&HA brought it upon themselves by allowing the previous owners to sell their ground and make us homeless. It is not the fault of the Falmer residents ( or NIMBY's we like to call them) if Falmer has been allocated as a site by B&H Authority, however in his opinion, this is unsuitable and he is persuing a course of action that will stop that ever going ahead. That is what he is elected to do.

If our argument is sound and we have covered every angle to the agreement of JP ( as he doesn't really give a monkeys about what the inspectors think - as witnessed by the last PE) then Falmer will go ahead, despite what NB feels. If JP is minded to agree with NB, then we will have to look elsewhere. That is the reality and no bitching about NB is going to change that

I fully accept what DTG has said but I would have thought that it would be easy to discredit NB by suggesting that if he cannot suggest a suitable alternative having been in direct contact with the parties concerned how can anybody be expected to respect his view other than the fact that he wants the club to fold and die.

will you lot lay off Harty!

When I call in I am always asked who I am and what I want to talk about.

It is a SCR show not a Brighton and Hove Albion show. If harty leaves at the end of the season, then no doubt we will have Johny Byrne as the presenter and all we will get is how brilliant everything is.

Sorry BG...why?

I have spoken to NB on a few occasions and he does not want the club to "fold and die"

He is convinced Falmer is not the right place......as I said...if he is wrong and we are right then it will go ahead.....that is the bottom line

I do not think that it is satisfactory to say I do not agree with Falmer and not be able to offer a suggestion as asuitable alternative if you are in the public eye as NB is.

Obviously the decision is not his but he is the most well known person who has spoken out against us going to Falmer so should he not back this up with an alternative.

then ring him up on Saturday afternoon and argue the point with him then,

not here on this board where we all agree that Falmer IS the right place to bung a 22,000 all seater community stadium.

Goodwill is an issue on the radio. For politicans getting elected, for the bankers willing to invest, for Planning Permission, for grants, even for supporters going to the new stadium .... not just a radio programme but the cumulative effect.

I have seen Planning Permission been given for a development plan been given at a Public Inquiry for the bankers to get cold feet because of public opposition. And that was a large supermarket which usually make enough dosh to pay the rent.

NIMBYs have never stopped a good plan ever though.

One thing I have never been able to judge though is the mood of a Public Inquiry and what the result is going to be. I think if everything was going pear-shaped there would be some sort of indication; interpreting what is going on is a different matter.

I thought the renovation of the West Pier was a good plan. Look what happened there though when people objected.

The big argument against all of this is the undeniable fact that BHA is a private company and how they got into this position, which we all know of to our cost, is immaterial to the outcome of the inquiry and to whether or not we should be given permission to build a new ground anywhere..

Good plan is judged by results. If it fails it is not a good plan.

If it succeeds it may be a good plan or its may be bloody awful, e.g. Teville Gate, Worthing.

I am certain that the West Pier could not have been renovated even if Bill Gates was backing it.
