I forgot about Wardy ! However most of the others mentioned never really cut it did they ? Codner and Bisset, Gary Hart and Keely and obviously Eric Young but there's not really anybody else who was much good, Johnny Crumplin and Peter Smith maybe and Alex Revell. Not many in over 40 years is it ?

Gary Hart takes some beating. Who'd have thought, having watched him in Division 3 up front, that he would be playing right wing in a team in the Championship? Not me!

Revell was a decent player as well considering the step up he made.

Sir Norman was signed from Gateshead in the early sixties when they were no longer a FL club and going back another decade, Frankie Howard played for Guildford before joining the Albion.

Jimmy Langley also came from Guildford both him and Frankie Howard were brought in by Billy Lane, but Guildford were quite a good non league club in those days. I thought that Sir Norman joined us when Gateshead went out of the league but would not argue.

All held their own in at least the second tier.

Revell was a huge success. He moved up about five levels in one single move, scored double figures in his first season, signed off with a match-winning hat-trick, and was sold on for a six-figure profit. Anyone trying to argue that this doesn't constitute 'success' is churlish, stupid or both.

Wasn't aimed at you, specifically - more the general revisionists who maintain Revell was 'crap'. Don't get so excited.

I beg your pardon. I would have said that Revell was a success because apart from anything we sold him for a decent profit.
