We were both there then that night in freezing October, with Albion awaiting the winners in next round of the cup and a streaker on the pitch and over the fence onto the railway embankment and disappeared into the night. I couldn’t stop laughing, they never caught him either. Shame York Rd will become another Tesco soon given itsunique history.
That streaker cost the match ! Maidenhead looked like winning up to that point. Good atmosphere that night although the chav kids were out in force. One of the Stafford fans called the police ! (As there were only stewards in the ground). That game was the only one I went to at York Road where there was segregation. Usually there were only around 300 in the ground and me and the kids used to help look for the ball when it was kicked out of the ground behind the main stand. It’s disappointing to hear it is finally going to be re developed.
