is that not our fault for adopting daft work/living patterns though? we want nice largeish semi with a garden, thats not too expensive or near the "bad" estates. but work is in the centre of town or in industrial parks on the edge. so we have to commute, or change massive social mindset. and the airports are not bursting at the seams, one airport would like to tell you that to suit their agenda.

Ok, I will take the heated debate about a third runway at Heathrow, a second runway at Gatwick and a potential fourth airport for London, be it in the estuary marshes or floating in the river, with a pinch of salt.

That my freind is the case! my ticket from HH to London is £5,500... For what? a disgrace of a service!

and yet it is both price controled and requires subsidy. think about that.

i should add, what we in Sussex should be doing it backing the campaign for Gatwick expansion, with the rider of investment for improved rail links to London. this would suit us all very nicly thank you.

One plus side is you never see a ticket collector when delayed. They go into hiding

Can you blame them ?

They get **** all help from control and are left to fend for themselves. If you go out to a group of angry commuters and tell them that you have no information - they are going to want your head.

Southern and FCC control rooms were a total shambles today. Took too long to get things moving and failed to give staff information.

WTF!! Have they gone up since May? Mine from Brighton was £4928 last May and includes all zones on the tube. How is an HH one more expensive!

The frontline staff, from station staff, train crew and drivers are always poorly served by the control rooms. If you have a smartphone the likelihood is you will be better informed than the staff. Whilst frustration from passengers is understandable, taking it out on staff is not.

This, giving staff blackberries is all well and good, but what's the point if you don't send them the info ? A conductor I know was only being sent messages about other trains. I mean having info about the 7.45 from Horsham to Victoria is alright if your running that service.....not if your at Brighton though.

Whatever the problem there is absolutely no excuse for that. Indefensible and incompetent.

100% this - I defend the railway a bit because usually there's reasons behind some disruption or actions - but I can't defend how they have acted today.

Trains are still being cancelled. A complete shambles.

That's where you've got one of the biggest problems on the railway these days, It's not so much the incidents that occur but it's the train operating companies inability to recover their service within a reasonable timescale afterwards.

Amen. Very glad this shift is almost over.

Now also a signalling issue at Battersea Park.

Might be worth using FCC from Blackfriars if coming home from London tonight instead of Victoria - issues at Selhurst ongoing.

We'll I'll be leaving Cleethorpes at 16:25, do you think they'll have got it sorted by the time I get to Victoria?

The message on the Southern site hasn't changed since first thing this morning. No mention of when it's back to "normal". Have already told my boss I have no idea if I'll be in tomorrow.

Just to chip into the price argument there is an annual German DB pass which can be used across the ENTIRE German network at ANYTIME. It's cost is a mere 4000 euros which is approx £3500. Yes you have read this correctly, £3500 to travel all over Germany, at any time, for 12 months. Goes without saying the trains are nicer, run on time and run every day of the year. As John Rotten once said "ever get the feeling you've been had?"

"BahnCard 100 - Just hop on the next train: BahnCard 100 offers 12 months travel on all DB services. It only costs EUR 4,090.00 for second class and EUR 6,890.00 for first class."
