Tweet from Naylor...................

Albion are in no hurry to sign a target man on loan and may not bring in one at all. See inside today's Argus for their options

Sounds like we are considering reverting to Gus's plan from the start of last season With the addition of the likes of Dobbie and Lopez, Hammond and Crofts, Bruno and Bridge, might it be that we have plenty of alternatives and don't actually need a target man? It didn't work with Paynter and Vokes.............

Don't need one... Just need a striker or two who can score (hopefully CMS and Dobbie), we create plenty of chances after all!

I'm surprised because Gus laid it out clearly why he was looking for that sort of player. Maybe he's seen something in training that will enable the side to play differently?

I think he's just been able to get some more quality in midfield to create even more chnaces. And bought in Dobbie who likes ball into his feet in goal scoring areas... hopefully he know thinks we'll be fine..

Naylor trying to sell papers.

what he is saying there is nothing new to us.

Who honestly thinks we are still going to bring more bodies in?

I for one don't and believe we will continue the same way we play now.

que us losing Friday and everyone going mental that we need a target man.

93 day loan deals are far from ideal so I suspect he will wait and see how we progress and re-evaluate in January.
Deffo.

We need to play out what we now have, not shuffle the pack.

It's not like we are going to lose every game between now and Jan.

If there's a need to mix it up for the second half of the season, so be it.

Just out of interest, I am sure I remember seeing something advertising a report in the Argus about 'Gus seeing the light'

Anyone know what that was about?

I think the word "target" man is a bit of a red herring. Perhaps use the word focus for our attacks. Last year Poyet wanted the target man to vary our attacks up a bit, esp if CMS was being heavily marked. A big target man came in i.e Vokes/Paynter but it wasn't our style and the attack just got isolated.

I think the likes of Dobbie really does vary our attack. Dobbie is a player who can create on his own, plus supply. I also think the benefit of Bridge and Bruno cant be underestimated. Both are very good at attacking, plus sound defensively leaving Kaz and Buckley to worry defences more.

I dont think we need a Vokes type player either.

I think that might be the case. The big issue I reckon has always been cms finding his feet. Now that seems, albeit early days in the season, to be bearing fruit, guessing Gus is a little more relaxed about where goals will come from.

Did Gus ever mention the words "target man" I dont recall this he said we needed something different and looking for something different to what we had.

Personally I am happy to go with what we've got let's try with the new players first, target men are just so last year.

Based on nothing but intuition I reckon Gus maybe had a target man as his first choice during the window. When nobody good enough was available, we we went for plan B) stiffen up the midfield and bring in someone there with aerial presence and the ability to time runs in the box - hence the Hammond loan.

I wonder if it might mean a last chance for Hoskins - his contract expires at the end of the season so I guess we need to have made a decision about his future before the January window closes?

Never thought we needed one. I wanted two attacking midfielders (in the Maxi ex-Liverpool style) that could operate as an all purpose striker and score goals.

What I do think we could use is a £10 million valued central defender. I can think of a few players that would fit the bill. But I think this sort of player is harder to find than a big centre-forward. Vokes was OK as a defender, better than as a striker.
