1. I haven't yet seen any NO SMOKING signs in supermarkets.

2. Has there ever been a single occurrence of someone smoking inside a supermarket?

Ditto, the country has gone totally anal on this as there is a personal choice but there you go.

wait till sunday, they'll have to have the signs on the door. wandering down local high street tonight i noticed lots of shops, especially the banks, have put the sings on their doors. the really sad thing is listed building have to conform. so while you cant put a statalite dish anywhere on your listed period cottage, you have to put a no smoking sign up on the front door if you use it for business.

And there it is! I was waiting for these discussions in the news and stuff when this ban was bought in. As a Brit living in Ireland, I have seen the introduction of a blanket smoking ban. And I saw that it was good. There there was of course plenty of support and opposition to it, but basically it went in, people got used to it and now its part of life. Its embarrassing reading the moaning, griping, I-am-being-oppressed-by-the-government stuff now its going to be done for Britain. The fact that it was oh-so predictable is just as bad.

Don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in freedom of choice and expression, and its clear to see that modern politics seems to be headed towards scaring us all into an early grave (terrorism etc)... But has ANYONE looked at other countries who have done this? Like Ireland? Its great, the pubs don't smell, I don't smell, smokers can still smoke, and the nights out are just as fun as they ever were.

The world changes. But Britain "soldiers on". Apparently.

now i dont really mind so much the new legislation, particularly regarding not smoking in work premises. let face it, how many could any way as a matter of company policy. but what is with all this signage crap? i notice church i walk past has had put up little signs. when did you ever see anone smoking in or around a church? and then on every building entrance there is a stupid little sign. not only that, but ive just read that you even have to have signs at the entrance to different businesses within the same building. :tosser:

have you ever seen a "do not steal" sign? why all this crap for this law?

Oh do come ON! Were you legally able to steal today, but not tomorrow?
If so, then signs WOULD be posted.
It's a new law, making everyone aware of it enables them to enforce said law without anyone standing up in court and claiming they did not know about it.

Would you expect a 'No Parking' area to suddenly be sprung on you without any posted signs? Have your car towed, and hear that it's a new ordinance and they just decided to implement it in secret?

Of course not. NO SMOKING :flameboun

Have you seen those chav mothers struggling to walk with a stroller while tugging at their chavvy brat, all the while pulling on a blunt like their life depended on it?
If they thought they could get away with it for a second, they'd be fag-ash Lil'ing all over Tescos or BHS, daring any poor soul to open their mouth to reveal the soiled mind behind it - and your local rock-ape mong would be there to 'back her up' against 'your sort, don't you worry sunshine'.

I can see loads of confrontations with drunken chavs on railway platforms and other places where some poor employee is going to be expected to enforce these ridiculously over the top restrictions.

As there's going to be a ban on people smoking on platforms, I wonder if the railway are now going to ban charter steam trains going through stations?
