Shame, if they just put 2 or 3 teams in the Prem, you could have promotion in every league of the ladder without relegation, clubs who have done well get rewarded whereas those who have slipped up get a season to sort themselves out. No need for bitterness or lawsuits

There is no guarantee that the clubs currently occupying the promotion places would have gone on to promotion if the season had continued to a natural conclusion had the season been uninterrupted and everything was normal in the world

To promote them just because they currently occupy those spots seems unfair on the other clubs competing against them who still had a very good chance of taking one of the promotion spots (clubs having games in hand, to play main promotion rivals, etc could all factor, whatever the league)

I’m so upset for Worthing FC and their entire squad and all the back room staff They were going so strong for automatic promotion and it all seems so wrong it really does.

Work it on average points per game if you have to but to deny a side when they are quite a way ahead is rubbish
really.

Perhaps the prize money per place can still be awarded based on the league position when the season was suspended.

That might depend on how much sponsors are prepared to chip in for a season that didn't finish. Don't forget some sponsors themselves won't be flush with money when this is all over so may be looking for their own savings.

They may, but I cannot see any other choice. If you have budgeted to be in the league you are in, then going into next season in the same league is the best of worse possible outcomes, because relegating anyone with the amount of games left would be even more catastrophic I feel.

Yes. I think the decision was pretty unanimous amongst the clubs below National League. At this level the most important thing is the clubs survive till Football can start again

Legal challenges already threatened. Even at that level.
Time for the higher leagues to step up and show solidarity then. Then, when this virus crisis is over, one test case, thrown out and costs awarded against the plaintiff. That should sort it.

One of th teams in the north east has started legal action against the football authorities according to Jeremy vine show.

As if it really matters at this time..

It's a weird decision, as leagues above might find themselves on a different schedule. If the leagues above complete this season winemakers they're well be a point where clubs are relegated but no one promoted

They've set it up that if a 22 team PL next season is an option, no one is relegated this season, but you could still promote 2 teams from each league below and the top team from National North and South.

Unless they are already mathematically promoted I can't see that going far.

If leagues haven't had the foresight to clearly express in their rules what happens in such a scenario then they have no other choice but to abandon.

And if a football match is abandoned after 70 minutes the match is replayed, so in this same spirit I suspect the same process will be applied to the leagues themselves.

Of course, by not having a clear policy the leagues open themselves up to criticism, and rightly so. I am no fan of Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp's management of that side has arguably been as good as anything we've seen in Premier League history and the stats bear that out. Unfortunately, those stats will probably be expunged from the record book within days.

Rape of Hastings, Sussex
I think that this might well be the norm across football this season, tough on those who were looking good ( I am a Worthing supporter too ) and a bit generous to those stuck in the bottom 3 of various divisions. Going to be nigh on impossible to finish all fixtures safely.

I’m so upset for Worthing FC and their entire squad and all the back room staff They were going so strong for automatic promotion and it all seems so wrong it really does.

I've been watching Hastings since the late 80's just as I have with Albion and it's been 7 years since they were relegated from the Isthmian Premier and they're 3 points clear at the top with 2 games in hand and a kind run in of fixtures in the South East Division. Like everything else going on at present, it's really sad.

I really feel for you two and anyone else with Worthing FC connections. The bigger picture is we've just got to hope all our Sussex non-league sides can actually survive at all though.

This is the thing, there is so much uncertainty as to what financial support is available for clubs, players and staff. Maybe the government can give exceptionally low interest loans that don't need to be paid back for many years ? This is going to cause huge turmoil in society and the ripples and the effects will take years to repair.

Can we name and shame them?

Why would you shame them?

Its South Shields and they've been very open about their views - https://www.shieldsgazette.com/spor...s-fa-after-devastating-promotion-blow-2519821

Very strongly agree with them.

Crazy decision from the FA unless they were prepared to make it for all senior football....but they can't as they have no say over the premier league and don't have the guts/money to stand up to any club higher up the pyramid.

The only perfect solution is to finish the season but if that isn't going to be possible then surely a better option would have to finished the league now and settled the places on a PPG basis. As I said it wouldn't have suited all and still would have put a lot of clubs noses out of joint but voiding the whole season......craziness IMO.

Inappropriate timing if nothing else. People are dying but we don't like something that's happening in football so we'll go to court. Whatever decision is made about this season, somebody will lose through it. So just suck it up, don't go running to court..

I would probably share your opinion if it applied to all levels of senior football.
