Have to say Beckham learnt alot from 98 and has been a credit to the England team for a long while. The press treatment of him after the 2006 World Cup was disgraceful. Anyone who went the games rather than watched them on TV saw a captain who worked his NUTS off every game (as opposed to Fat Frank who sauntered around the park at his leisure) & deserved better. Most of the goals we scored were created by him. The fact that the ruddy-faced clown dropped him was a sign of how shit Mclaren was.

Beckham is worth a place in the England squad, deserves credit for the way he battled back after 98, and has earnt everyone of his caps - which I believe is the latest shit people have against him... he's got too many caps apparently.

Beckham = England Legend

not at all tounge in cheek. when Beckham plays we move the ball to him and he pumps long diagonal balls onto the edge of the box. their centre backs only have to stand around there to defend without really being challenged much. it also allows their full back to press up or cover too easily as Beckham doesnt get far enough fowrad and the diagonal balls draw our left winger inside (not that they've needed much encouragement).

this is why against quite average to crap oppostion we came to rely on Beckham free kicks and corners to actually score. against 10 behind the ball, placing the ball right onto the heads of their centre backs isnt going to do anything other than give away possesion and frustrate us.

good point about Bently. point about the ones i mentioned is that they give you attacking penetration down the wing, scares the shit out of the full back and the CB who have to come out of their comfort zone. this opens the game up and mean we can play our game, fast and counter attacking.

Good point well made.
I don't agree, but nevertheless, still the best anti-Becks point I've heard in a long time.
Young and Walcott could be frightening and probably are the nearest things we have to a post DB future. I just don't think they are quite there yet.

And yes, Willow might not believe me but since the Old Trafford Greece game, Mr Beckham was 'sainted' in my eyes and his halo is far from slipping.

Now Beorthelm, I challenge you to convince me Wes Brown deserves to even be a pro footballer, let alone a full international.

fat chance, he's an utter waste of space.

and im not anti-beckham, i just feel he's not delveoped into an all round box to box midfielder. he can do a job, just so long as we have alternatives if it doesnt work.

SWP and Lennon have failed when given the chance. Neither can cross effectively so it doesn't matter how fast you get down the wing if the end product is crap (although I did think SWP did show signs of improvement in his last international). Walcott is probably the best prospect but out injured at present.

I would respectfully suggest that none of the other top players value their England careers as much as Beckham and it is clear he wants everyone to do well, not just himself. Look at when he came on for Walcott against Croatia.
He may be behind Walcott in the starting 11 but no other right sided midfielder, certainly not Bentley who needs to be considerably more consistent than he is now.

Funny how Beckham has rehabilitated himself and became fashionable again. You couldn't find a Beckham fan for love nor money a few years ago.

In 1998 yes, but after the free kick V Greece, the blokes been a legend ever since.

He's the only player to play consistently well and with passion in an England shirt for the last 10 years.

I'd rather have a team of David Beckham's playing for England than tossers like Gerrard, Carragher & Lampard who don't give a sh*t about wearing the three lions!

I deffo need to watch that game again.
As for me it's not just 'the free kick'.
Through my rose coloured glasses and time playing tricks on me, I have Becks raking 40 yard cross field passes, to himself, playing a neat 1-2, with himself, before shooting just wide, but a little nearer than the last time.

All the while the other 10 players were standing around chatting and having a fag.

I'd say that's a fair description of how shit everyone else on the pitch was for that game. Though I might have some tinted specs about that game as well, I was a bit worse for wear and missed the beginning of the second half due to being asleep, not to mention the view from the third tier at OT. I missed Beckhams free kick as well

Definitely rose-tinted: Beckham missed 4 free kicks that night as well as 2 or 3 other chances. Funny how everyone forgets that.
