The wedding question was brilliant

Q what would your advise be to those who have weddings booked in August and September are restrictions on gatherings still likely to be in place?

PP my friends wedding has been cancelled.....need to control the virus...blah blah......guided by the science so will leave this to Patrick to answer

PV no thats a policy decision we only advise

PP next question

Similarly, when the Sky (habitual shite stirrer) asked about whether or not people travelling from France would, in light of this evening’s new tough rules face quarantine, the answer should simply have been “yes” or “no”.

Instead PP went into one about the new regime being necessary to prevent a second wave.

In other words, imho, the answer is “yes”. Why not just say as such?

I’m still semi confident this may not happen.

Hi there.

Are losing hope of Gatwick and airlines being truly up and running by July and August?

Outbound won’t be a problem to many short term destinations. But our draconian inbound regime will be a hammer blow to anyone aspiring to have a holiday.

She's hopelessly out of her depth in these sessions.

To be honest, putting any minister with a particular brief into the spotlight is quite a big ask, since many questions will come in that are way outside of a minister's, and his/her department's area of specialism. However, when Priti Patel is put up, it illustrates just how good most other ministers are at dealing with that situation, and just how hopeless she is.

I know the whole lot will be hated by many in these parts (wrong political party), but unlike Patel, they’re personable (except Gove imo) and are easy to listen to.

Said from NOT a Tory hater per se .... Christ she’s a hard b*tch. Really, really laying it on thick about no travel for the English, said without an ounce of charm, empathy or interest in any affected people.

Home Secretary is the perfect cabinet role for that personality type.

I think there have been some marvellous Home Secretary's over the decades, it is one of the " Big Four " departments in government ( PM, Chancellor and FS the others) and was a prestigious position. Some political giants have occupied the post over the years but political talent has pretty much gone missing over the last 20 years or so, and isn't likely to return in the near future.

Hightest

You would never guess that we have the most inexperienced cabinet in my lifetime, would you ???

That Rishi Sunak looks quite bright, but I'm not sure I'd make someone who joined the company 5 years ago CEO in any sort of company, let alone the most important one in the UK.

I think July onwards should be ok.

In my view the Government has three choices:

1. Support the airlines/airports/tourism/hotels etc which will cost billions

2. The loss of 200,000 or so jobs (if not more) - you may think that’s an over reaction - but between BA/Rolls Royce/Virgin it’s 25k jobs already - and have to support these people finically - plus a potential knock on for Brexit deals

3. Do this for 3 weeks just to tick the box.

I think they have said 8th June to give themselves time to row back once they have an app for tracking.

Jet 2 have said July

EasyJet/Ryanair still saying June.

Priti Patel is our country's Home Secretary because she is a True Believer, anointed for services to the ascendant wing of the Conservative Party rather than for any relevant qualities.

Continuing the theme, the atrocious Suella Braverman is now being toted for a cabinet promotion. Yes, this Suella Braverman.

Thanks. I don’t think you’re overreacting at all. Gatwick alone supports 36,000 jobs, then beyond air travel, factor in ferry lines and ports, Eurostar, untold numbers who work for tour operators here and at overseas destinations.

Did a little search earlier and it seems Caribbean is starting to open up in June/Europe June/July

America is the one, when that opens everyone else will as they won’t want to miss out.

I'm so pleased you picked on her, a moron amongst idiots. The junior Brexit minister who committed us to paying the BREXIT divorce bill, before the negotiations had even started properly

A Moron, but a Brexit supporter, so has been promoted twice since :lolol:

I was aware of the big 4 prestigious posts.

I don’t rate her. What I meant is that her Rottweiler-esque persona is the only role I could see her in. Labour and Tory have often put an alleged tough cookie in the role. Charles Clarke and John Reid were thought of as bruisers.

I liked John Reid btw, combative and direct, fitting his Lanarkshire roots.

It all boils down to the UK ending quarantine. Yes, some people will chance their arm and lie, but the £1,000 fine is something to think about. I assume that’s per adult.

It's a shame... at the start of this process it seemed like the government, and those being put forward to spread the daily news were doing so out of the public interest.

Now unfortunately it is clearly out of political interest - those assembled to give the briefings look like rabbits in the headlights, and would clearly rather be somewhere else, like shaking hands in a Covd-19 ward, so have reverted to politician mode, by not answering any questions, other than with their pre-prepared nonsense answers!

I've said it before, and undoubtedly will again, I don't care two hoots what colours the speaker wears, I just want them to look after all of us as equals, and not for political gain, or to save their own skin or make themselves looks good!

.... but, making the English de facto prisoners in our own country this summer, will shirley be politically very unpopular. The Public Heath (non-politician) scientists seem to be driving this, the scientist laid it on thick with the R value recap.

Whilst the Spanish, Portugese, Germans, Austrians and Italians plan their home and overseas summer holidays.

This government will be despised by many for this, imho.

They are put up there to take the flak for Johnson, he can't answer questions either but he has the clout to put his underlings in the firing line rather than take the flak himself..... " not me guv ! …"

think thats conservative, 2.5m jobs in hospitality alone and only 10% would probably be normal for a regular recession. a summer in semi-lockdown and no air travel and the entire industry could fail.

Some countries are updated by their leaders everyday. Could you imagine that ? Consistency across daily briefings, allowing follow ups on information given from one day to the next ?

Of course some Governments will, from experience, believe that would be too complicated for their electorate and would prefer something pitched more at the 'Britain's got Talent' level .... and next up
