Pork pie land.
How about some cheap New Zealand or Oz fillet steak, which they had to find new markets for after we shit on them and joined the Common Market? Or most other foods that are cheaper in non-EU countries? There seems to be a lot of ignorance about how expensive our food has become due to the EU and their Common Agricultural Policy.

Blimey, similar success with pots, tom's, carrots and especially butternut squash together with outdoor melons.
Runner beans also were a poor show, due to the heat.
Garlic going well :)

Interesting that we both had similar results yet miles apart ? At my site nearly everyone had poor Runners but those who had kept looking after the plants were rewarded by a late flush of flowering when things cooled down. Grew more Greek Gigante's this year, they are a special white bean Runner that you grow for the seeds only, marvellous in casseroles, chillies and soups, look them up online !

Quite often these cheap meats from abroad derive their cheap price from the huge scale of operations that devastate the natural environment. Think of the carbon footprint of importing Beef from Argentina compared to from France or Belgium. Think also how we effectively force African countries to grow cheap herbs, veg and flowers for us that occupies the land they should be growing their own food on.

Maybe, just maybe, you could find someone who gives a shit if prices are significantly cheaper.

Plums a disaster this year. Small, dry and tasteless. Last year they were twice the size and a source of a cupboard full of jam and chutney.

Back to OP post, rat a tat tatouille has a nice ring to it.

They’re not poor, barefoot runners deliberately run without shoes.

Indeed you should question your own heritage and provenance, Pork Pie.

Good point, there was a South African variety that produced a Budd but never really flowered as I recall ?

Now this is an interesting post: the uk is far better prepared than before WW1 or WW2 when we produced less than 40% of the food consumed

The U.K. Is apparently 85% self sufficient in food production this excludes anything we cannot grow or produce such as Bananas or Tuna
79% of the food and drink we import comes from the EU
11% is from countries granted Most Favoured Nation status, such as the USA, China, Brazil and Australia.
9% comes from bilateral agreements with countries such as Canada, Norway and Chile.
1% from Generalised Scheme of Preferences (lower than WTO tariffs), such as India, Ukraine and Iran.

Assuming the worst a hard Brexit the UK would be completly self sufficient in some produce such as carrots and eggs but not in all such as pork or beef so some shortages are likley and some cost increases inevitable.

Protein from Animals will be more expensive as it takes on average for beef for example 3 years from conception to plate as such we will have a shortfall for some years, so more vegetable based meals are likley and they will include more UK products such as potatoes, carrots, barley, turnips, swede, beetroot, onions so looking at recipes from Soviet Russia or post war Britain might be worth while

The big problem is the year round demand for produce that frankly, does not grow all year ! Unfortunately we are bombarded with cookery shows using all manner of ingredients that often have a short harvest or don't grow at all over the short winter days. Bye bye those fresh Raspberries, the Asparagus, the Avacado's , Sweetcorn, Tomatoes, Peppers, Courgettes Broccolli, etc etc.....

Yes UK products such as potatoes, carrots, barley, turnips, swede, beetroot, onions will be fairly cheap and plentiful, just so long as we don't suffer droughts or heatwaves or unseasonal cold snaps, but, what a life that sounds ? Chicken and Vegetable soup 5 days a week ?
