No Amex bookmakers ?

Can't say it will make a blind bit of difference to the majority of people. If you want to bet you have ample opportunity to do so online or elsewhere either before the game or for those many people with smart phones anytime you want. I also can't imagine it would be as profitable for the club to have betting points run by someone else over merchandise areas selling the clubs own products. I've always found bookies to be a bunch of shady loud mouthed shysters anyway so they are not something I would want ducking and diving around the Amex. No great loss imo.

pretty gutted about this. i know yes you can bet on your phone. but at withdean it was a real struggle to get online on my phone with the number of people around using their phones. I understand the clubs reasoning, but most of the top away grounds will always have a bookie there and for those of us who just like to bet with our spare change betting online is quite a bit of hassle.

Not the end of the world but a little disappointed. Always more fun hearing the team news at the ground then as Bozza says, getting the inkling that one player is going to score first and going for it. Mobile apps just aren't the same.

It's more fun physically placing the bet at a bookies in the ground than on your phone

You can't bet on everything on the exchanges though. They won't offer first or anytime scorer prices on every game and on those they do they won't quote every player. These are the types of "fun" bet that would have been popular with a stadium bookmaker. Seems a shame to me anyway.

It is more about striking the right deal, than not wanting one I was led to believe. No big deal, as most markets open up 'days' in advance, so can do it online, over the phone etc.

No way! I love having a bet at the ground, those little betting kiosks on the concourse are great and well used.

Somebody said something about the club deciding it didn't fit the 'family-friendly' vibe of the ground. By all means encourage kids and families, but surely as the whole of the east stand has been designated 'zero tolerance', other parts of the ground could be more 'footy-fan friendly' with bars and bookies kiosks.

No bookies would be a bit pants, to be honest.

You reckon? My iphone hardly ever worked at Withdean due to the crowd, I doubt they'll work at the Amex.

Drove past the stadium yesterday and there looked like there was a new mobile phone mast very close by, so they may be alright.

That said, its a shame if there isn't anywhere to be able to place a bet at the ground, maybe they could have had 1 shop accessable from the ground rather than lots of kiosks everywhere.

No bookies!!!?!?! Well if they are concerned with the family image of it, don't put a bookies in the East Stand (family blocks). Also no chips on the menu is a big mistake

hold on a mo... i want a bookie in the east stand , oh and guinness too,

seems things WERE too good to be true !!

Shame, there should be on-site betting available, as there is at virtually any other major sporting arena. It enhances the experience for many people.

I'm not sure I'm buying the whole 'against family values' spin. I know for a fact major bookmakers were sounded out for everything from shirt sponsorship to 'official bookmaker' status at the stadium. Far more likely that they failed to agree acceptable terms with someone.

the facts are that we were promised dark star & guinness,
and we were told that corals betting points would be throughout the stadium

Martin Perry specifically said on my Falmer tour that they were struggling to secure a reasonable deal with a bookmaker so the betting points would probably be taken out.

'Against family values' is nonsense.

It is indeed a shame ... the only time I have a punt, other than the occasional casino visit, is at football grounds.

Guess I'm now a guaranteed winner every week, as I had already budgeted for a £5 wager each match. This money now stays in my pocket as will not be spending it at the merchandise kiosks.

One thing I do know, unpalatable as it may seem, is that even our splendid new arena is on the small side for a bookmaker to take on as 'official betting partner' as for, say, Wembley. There is simply not enough turnover from a 22,000-capacity ground to justify their expense, so they probably drove a hard bargain and Albion as a result pulled the plug.

Good news for the Betfred outlet by the Hikers, though. That shop can expect a bit of a profits surge next season, if I was the manager I'd negotiate myself a bonus right now.

Most of the new stadiums have a betting stand though. I know they do at St Marys and they averaged 22,000 last season which is pretty much where we'll be this season, and that's before stadium expansion.

Poor decision. More disappointing than the absence of chips, tbh.

I'd imagine they would be sold as pitches like at a racecourse or would it be more complicated than that?
