People love to whinge. Nike have churned out a succession of perfectly decent, if uninspiring, blue and white striped shirts. The latest is actually pretty good.

Only once have they strayed from 'safe' and it was almost universally HATED (the Frankenstein one).

I've no idea what people actually (think they) want.

I guess for one of the biggest clothing manufactures on the planet to have access to a designer who can design a half-decent new shirt every couple of years? Half of NSC seem to be able to do it with the mock-ups we regularly see, but it seems to be beyond a company who specialise in it and generate $9 billion a year.

It really doesn’t seem that much to expect.

People are allowed an opinion, if they don’t like something then they’re perfectly entitled to say so. Nike have provided a succession of unimaginative templates and general tat.

My guess is that the majority of ‘older’ fans would like more of a classic kit, predominantly blue, with stripes on the back. None of this matters, of course, as kids will want whichever dross Nike serve and as long it sells the club will go with them.

This years kit though is fantastic.
A lot more detail and design when you actually see it in the Club Shop.
Shirt Sales increase year on year so somethings right about them and what they are providing.

Not sure what you can do with red body and white sleeves but Arsenal have had some great looking kits recently and the new one by Adidas is beautiful. Errea put out some lovely kits over the years with blue and white stripes too.

The design and the quality are the two issues.

The design, (I’m guessing) has to be signed off by the club, so this isn’t totally the fault of the manufacturer. (I’m aware that the away kits are nike’s standard ones)

The quality, I think, has improved year on year. They’ve taken on the feedback about the hated iron on sponsors logo.

wtf is a "technical partnership"?

A somewhat controversial answer to this puzzling sales pitch , could be along the lines of . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .

A couple of the players are flown to deepest Pakistan and shown how a 7 year old can stitch these quality items together for less than a pound a hour , the players are then photographed with a pair of scissors and a needle to give the impression to the paying customer that they themselves had some input into the actual shirt they the customer may indeed purchase themselves at a later date .

Now how technical this partnership actually is can be misleading , but it's in there somewhere i'm sure , to get a modern day professional footballer to hold scissors AND a needle at the same time is technically , pretty impressive .

If any one of those mock ups had been released as an official shirt design, they would have had exactly the same number of whiny responses #FACT.

or they are designed with no regard to any RULES that need adhering to - design and size of numbering - sponsors' strict logo use restrictions, etc.

I met a guy on holiday a couple years back who reckoned he was pretty high up in Nike. I bought up their crap kit designs after quite a few drinks, as you do. He kind of laughed, then told me that Nike have no interest in ‘soccer’ kits, and only get involved to stop rival sports firms from cornering the market! I have no idea if he was just full of shit and talking bollocks or not, but it would explain the dire strips they design!

I wouldn't describe the current kit as "dire". Looks alright to me. They've not done anything STUPID that makes me utterly recoil from it and go "oh f*ck, no....what were they thinking ??".

Its our traditional stripes, in our traditional colours. Like [MENTION=3566]hans kraay fan club[/MENTION], I don't really know what people are expecting.

I am more concerned about who will be wearing it next season. However, I agree that it is unimaginative and wonder why, if a top manufacturer actually wants the business, they don’t put a design out to tender.
I suspect that the above post re Nike not being that bothered about their football business is true. They have bigger fish to catch in other ponds.

Not sure why people complain about bland shirts so much, it's a football shirt. I guess we don't want horrific ones, but Nike are pretty neutral. The most important aspect of these deals is the revenue it brings in for the club.

If kids love the kits, that's all that matters; are fully grown men really that bothered by the kit...
