I would be interested in people's view on this too - I use the website to measure the distance of running routes but that is it. I don't actually understand what nike+ offers, all I know is that it connects to your ipdo and somehow helps with running.

So, what does nike+ do?
As a regular runner, would I benefit from it?

I'd been aware of it for quite some time but didn't have much interest in it. Then I saw an Aussie colleague using it. She was working with us in the UK for a month and had a Nike+ challenge with one of her colleagues back in Melbourne, to see who could run the most miles (well, km actually) in November.

So I was going to get a Nano for the Nike+ until I read it comes built into the iPod Touch 2nd gen. so that was all the excuse I needed to finally update my old video iPod.

So I started pounding pavements a couple of weeks ago and enjoying what Nike+ brings as I like competing against numbers if that makes sense - going further or faster etc.

It's basically a new-fangled pedometer so counts your steps. Obviously you calibrate it to your stride length so it knows distance and speed etc. At any time you can be told (ie verbally, you don't have to read) how far you've run so far, for how long you've been running and what your current pace is.

It has a whole load of built in workouts, including distance (5km, 10km etc), Time (20min, 1 hour etc), calorie burning (eg burn 200kcals, 600 kcals etc) or you can define your own goals.

It will keep a note of your fastest mile (or km) and Paula Radcliffe or Lance Armstrong will come on and tell you if you've beaten your previous best.

And the Nike+ site itself will record all this stuff too, syncing via iTunes, and you can set challenges with others, or join in challenges.

For me, I think it's quite a decent motivational tool.

Yeah I saw a review of this in January's Runners World and I'm quite tempted by it. It's one of the best pedometers out there apparently. The Garmin Forerunner 405 is apparently the best value if you're interested - priced at £180.

I presumed it was a bit more techy than this i.e. it used GPS to measure distance?
