My sports editor, who is also Welsh, has just pointed out to me that if Man City reach the League Cup final. They won't go into next year's Europa League as they are bound to already have a Champions League place.
Cardiff will NOT be allowed to enter the Europa League because they are a FAW club and can only enter as Welsh Cup Winners.
Similarly Liverpool are faves for a Champions League or Europa League place by their position in the Premiership....
THEREFORE: Could Palarse be offered the place as the other losing semi finalist?
Shit happens!
Looking for confirmation from UEFA sources... and it's too early for April 1st!
:ffsparr::fishing:

No. Stop worrying you grade A worrier!

You HAVE to win the carling cup. Runner up isn't even good enough.

It differs from the FA Cup!

Dear Sir

Thank you for your enquiry regarding teams gaining automatic places in the Europa League by virtue of winning or becoming a runner-up in a national league cup competition.
We have studied the points you raise and agree with your rationale in principle. We are also aware that recently Millwall qualified for Europe despite being a second tier football club in England, by their own virtue of being runner-up in the FA Challenge Cup.
However, we should point out that there is a world's difference between being Millwall and this other club called Crystal Palace.
When our executive resolutions committee first saw the name of this other club, we thought you may be referring to the rather splendid building built in London for the 1851 National Exhibition and destroyed by fire in 1936. We genuinely did not believe they had a football team, not least one that could compete in the English Championship. However, on closer inspection we realise you are referring to a small professional club who play in the London suburb of Croydon, an area of European grade 5 deprivation and displaced caravan dwellers.
You may now have my assurance that our president Michel Platini would shoot his own mother and shag his father than ever allow this club Crystal Palace a place in any European competition.
As certain as your prime minister David Cameron said NO to the European monetary treaty, we say NO to this Crystal Palace nonsense.

PS I have just watched a video of the penalty shoot out last night between this Crystal Palace and Cardiff. I have not laughed so much since... well ever!
